Hey guys, I'm interested in making this sort of "skipping" bass from the xx's remix/cover of Florence and the Machine's 'You've got the love'.
I've experimented with just having a more moving sine sub-bass, but I can't really get the depth or the 'skipping' of it.
Also, this seems a random question and probably belongs in another forum but is Bon Iver's voice simply multi-track recorded or is there another trick to it?

Yea that's totally true. I actually do that a lot with my sounds. It works especially well sometimes if you layer the sound twice, one focusing on a higher eq'ed, crisper part and then a bassy tone, then messing with distortion.

Yeah, both Funty and Trampa use Reason, I've been using it's synths quite a lot lately and finding they're pretty top notch!

theres an lfo on the pitch of it at times, cant say much more, my knowledge of synthesis is poor at best

This sounds like a square or multiple squares phasing or with some pulse width modulation (that's why it moves). I'm pretty sure it's just a [some] square wave with maybe a bit of light distortion and defenitly a low pass filter on top. I don't have time today but I'll try to take a stab at it sometime tomorrow and If i can make anything like it, I'll send you what I got.

Is anyone able to help me make these style wobbles? feels weird calling them wobbles because they dont seem very wobbly imo

anyone able to help me out? I'm pretty sure all of those artists are Reason users, or at least rewire Reason; I've been playing around in Reason but cant get anything

Pretty much any Moog, Polysix or similar analogue synth can make that sound (like without trying), it's very basic and the other bit is a sampled cello!

a saw wave
a sub oscillator
Unison Detune

Here's the very diluted way of doing it.
1: Boot up Operator.
2: Set to one oscillator on Saw.
3: Filter it through a bandpass and tweak until similar noise is achieved.
Sidenotes:
There is a bunch of effects in there such as Auto-filtering, very very slight phase I think and possibly a minor amount of Reverb.
Mess around and you should get it.

Yeah the guys above me are pretty much right. You'll want an LFO on the saw though with the rate cranked up to max, amplitude about 3/4, modulating the pitch of the saw 1 semitone. That gives it that buzzing sound.

Could you not just make it in massive and play in the notes and render at 24/32 bit wav then stick it in reason? it wont lose any quality and there is your sound..

if you have massive, make the patch and play each oscilator and try and find the one that sounds the same or most similar in thor and you should be able to work the rest as if it was massive
or what i've been doing a lot of lately is taking off the lfo on massive and recording 4 bars of the synth at C into another DAW, cubase in my case, and then exporting it as a wav and loading it into an NN19 and setting the lfo up on there
the problem with leaving the lfo on is that if you change the pitch of the synth in reason you change the speed of the lfo too so it can cause it to sound out of time
once you've recorded the note on your second DAW, try adding some effects and exporting it again and you can keep going before you bring it too reason
this is basic resampling by the way, so you might want to look into that and you'll find tips and tricks on even bigger sounds

So ive been listening to a lot of icicle lately and have noticed he has some nice stereo imaging on his basslines....they really fille the room and the track.
