nah, more about keeping it regular (not shakes but protien) like better to have 4-6 high protein meals a day than just one massive one.

Carbs should be taken AFTER working out (ideally within half an hour or so)

- Shit i learned doing a years sports science at uni before changing course
That's outdated x: The "anabolic window" (the time you want to eat/have carbs after your workout) has been disproved. How many meals you get with protein isn't important either. And 'big' is too subjective :p What's a 'big' meal with protein?

You want about 1 gram of protein peR lbs of bodyweight. Preferably from as much whole food and from different sources as you can. A shake helps make that convenient and tasty.

"disproved." is very rare with sports science.

No, but you might still need a shake in general or just more protein/food.

I've tried both the many small meals and fewer large meals, and honestly I find that an in between number of medium meals works best for me. Currently on 4 a day + snacks (fruit, nuts, shakes) in between.

Like has been said though, as long as you're getting your macros and eating sensibly its fine...this work I just find works for me given my daily routine etc.

Ditto on the shakes. I usually have one when I come back from training straight away, but it's by no means essential. I just find it works for me.

Make my own. Used to buy the all in one mix a couple years back, then someone pointed out it was much cheaper to buy the individual ingredients and make it myself, so now just buy a big bag of whey, creatine and dextrose and make them myself.

Instant Oats for when I need to add a bit of extra carbs in.

Remember, it's a supplement, not a replacement

whole food >>>

@ehbrums I don't make my own whey, no :6:
But yeah, I don't buy the all-in-one type deals.

So as long as I have the right nutrients in me it doesn't really matter when I ingest them?

Bingo. And more like in the right amounts. The right amount of carbs, protein and fat.

Intake of protien can be better in multiple meals for digestion though, if you eat like 200lbs in one meal you are likely to be getting the shits.

Yeah it matters obv, but not from a 'bodybuilding' point of view. But no one's gonna say 'oh i can eat 200 grams of protein per day, I'ma have them all at once' because so much food has protein in it but also carbs and fats etc.

People think to much about when to eat what imo.

My friends and me who work out basically eat whatever decent/healthy.
Cut down on sugars.
I don't take any suplements/protein/creatine what ever (except fish oil as I really hate eating fish) and try to get everything out my diet. I don't really think about when to eat protein/carbs at all. Except eating 1 banana after a work out.
I basically eat when i'm hungry and try to keep that healthy.

right bare bullshit on this thread so heres the crack to get ripped.

force feed yourself 6 meals a day with both carbs and atleast 30gs of protein each time. i mean you will really need to force this down almost to the point of being sick but i guess thats what separates men from the boys.

Also have a shake before/after workout + right before bed. your shake will depend on what your aiming for e.g when i was building up i took nrg ttp which has bare carbs, protein and other fucked up chemicals that will have you like a dog on heat.

alternatively if you just want to cut up just have protien and blend a banana in or some shit to spike insulin and get things cracking.

finally start every session with squats and super set everything in the gym. you will be doing double the workout compared to all the other lazy skinny retards in the gym and you will see the difference within two weeks.

and then go out and enjoy all the pussy you will get regardless if you look like del boy with bells palsy. ciao

Damn this thread has been going for 2 years and I've only just discovered it.

Re: the 'anabolic window'... you may not NEED to eat 30 mins or sooner after your workout, but you most probably will want to, so go for it.

I'm a big fan of IIFYM, anyone else swear by this with regards to diet / nutrition?!

Sure, eat whenever you want. But needing protein right after your workout to grow is a myth. You just need your daily intake.

And yeah, I purely keep it down to macros.
