Some interesting things have been said.

Like all music forms that have been around for a long time people will always try to water them down.

If Dubstep is to survive the same thing will happen in time.

I will freely admit that most DnB is trash and I won't even waste my time attending half the raves.

Plus there are artists, labels and nights with hardcore followings which are still alive and kicking, bring new sounds all the time.

Like any music form you have to dig deep to find cutting edge tunes.

Dubstep is new and as yet there is still a lot that can be done. In time artists, labels and nights will find their niches and probably stick to them.

But like all music forms you will always find a few examples of cutting edge, fresh sounds / beats.

I have only joined this form because I saw a link to the website on Dogs On Acid.

I'm interested in the sound and a few of us are planning to hit a night in London soon.

All I can say is its nice to hear cutting edge music that has some fucking bassline pressure! Plus the darkness in some tunes is just sick!

I found this mix intriguing, learned about it from Jess Harvell's Pitchfork article. Kind of gutsy to mix from Badawi to the Pieter K tune to Plaid, not entirely convinced that it works, but very creative. Couldn't help but think when I first heard it that mixes like this, i.e., including Plaid et al (non dnb etc), is one of the interesting directions that dnb mixing should explore in the future. Gave the mix to Jason oS just a couple of weeks ago. Nice one, Kuma.

I been listenin' to DNB for 3 years, Grime since it was Garage and Dubstep since I heard Vex'd.

Vex'd Crusher Dub is the fuckin' track for me.

Without DNB n' Jungle I never would've liked Garage/Grime/Dubstep.

It's all relative, innit.

i believe dubstep and dnb can co-exist peacefully with good tunes all round and no a-list lockdown of tunes:

dubstep heads = failed junglists

There's one mistake people in both dubstep and dnb camps seem to be making:

DNB HEAD: "Dubstep? Well, I've heard a clip of a track in 128kbps quality 2 months ago, too slow and crappy production as for me, it sucks."

DUBSTEP HEAD: "D'n'B? Yeah, I used to be into atmospheric jungle in '97 but since then it's all gone crap apart from the 3 obvious drumfunk producers I've stumbled across online in the last 3 months, it's too dark, too hard, too boring, it sucks."

Both examples of musical laziness. You might as well just stick to whatever pop crap TMF tries to feed you and buying Justin Timberlake mp3's off ITunes...

sileni's twitchy droid leg has been mentioned a lot on this thread... When i got the vex'd remix i wasn't feeling the flip (martsman) but i downloaded some of his other stuff, and it's pretty fuckin tasty.

i swear German dnb is moving fwd in a way *a lot of, but not all, obv* english dnb isnt

Soundmurderer and SK1 have created the best jungle I have ever heard, and they are from detroit of all places

I still love drum and bass... all of it and i run a successful dnb night as well as H.E.N.C.H but then I've only been into since 2002...

However most of the people at the heart seem, to me, as passionate as ever and every week my night is rammed and atmosphere is amazing

There's some quality dnb being made, but saying more than ever is frankly ridiculous. Seems to be played out rehashes of old styles with better production (I don't buy tunes for the production btw). DNB seems to have left any claims to originality or relevance long time back.

Even noticed a thread on DOA where people were discussing how embarrassed they felt about the genre - this is mostly to do with it being reduced to rave music for 13 year old pillheads though.

Didn't lose the passion for jungle, just can't be arsed to look for that micro-percentage of tunes that are actually interesting or doing something new. Always the reissues though...

most has, but keep your eyes on Offshore, Counter Intelligence, Subvert Central, Thermal and the like and you'll hear originality and relevance by the gallon

Well to my mind, liquids just the Logical Progression sound updated, there's still the techsteppy business which Ed Rush was doing better years ago, and that dreadful reese and hoover business that seems to ruin most free parties.

I know that there's good stuff out there as that mix of yours demonstrates Ben, but the more interesting stuff doesn't seem to get played by the bigger name dj's to my knowledge. But then any interest I had in dnb has more or less been squandered by the drivel that's been popular for the last few years and I don't have the time to check through hundreds of releases to find something that isn't more of the same old shizzle. Which is probably why I spend my time here rather than DOA.

Yeah this much is true, the scene is completely locked down. It'd a mistake to think big name DJs represent everything in drum and bass though.. at the moment there's quite a lot of good music being released - it's taken a lot of time for labels to establish themselves but there's a few labels now in a position to release interesting music regularly. Elgato's on the money with his picks..

I have no idea why the people releasing good music are still clinging to drum and bass though when they get no representation or support from the scene.. it may as well be a totally different scene. The people who buy their tunes don't go to big raves - they'd do much better marketing themselves to the boomkat/dubstep/electronica crowd than to drum and bass fans in my opinion.
