Rise Up (Pinch Remix) - Henry & Louis, probably one of the most positive dubstep tunes i've heard in a LONG time, also Anti War Dub - Digital Mystikz (goes without saying)
also i have to say Ale Fillman - Rainshine (for all those who are suggesting theres no chilled dubstep over in the states)

I have the same issue as you...I really love dubstep but sometimes I just can't find it in me to get into the really dark songs...these are the ones that I've found that defy that constraint:
I would go as far as to say that this thread is now outdated. I figure dark tunes were 2008, and from 2009-10 have all but died out. Sure, there's still 16Bit and Boregore, etc.. but how many of you actually play that stuff?
A minority. I'd say that EVERY mixtape and set I've been playing in the last six months has been positive. At the very least, there's a lot more 2 Step now, a lot more soulful tunes.. and a hell of a lot more with lyrics, blue note jazz, etc. etc. etc.
So.. this thread just isn't even relevant anymore. I'd say that I haven't really heard anything dark being played out for a seriously long time. That's the product of a bygone age.. and as we near spring the summer vibes are already happening.
Reference: Geiom - Sugar Coated Lover.
You can also check my podcast for some jazz/2step/soulful sounds...

thanks to infernal.techno / inferno for reminding me about this thread.
I'm not sure if this thread is now outdated or not. Where i live it isn't (Florida), because every club or beach party i hear the apocolyptic sound still. thanks for all the submissions, ive got some catching up to do. although, i must admit, lately ive been entrenched in future garage, funky (the deeper techy side of it, not "snare house" or "marching band music" as i call it), and juke.
i have to say though, 2 years ago, i got sick of dubstep after only a few months of playing it out (but continued to play it anyway). immediately i noticed how narrow spectrum the music palette is (or was?). got tired of the snare always on the 3, gibberish black ragga style vocals no one knows what the f they're saying, etc.
here's another one i found not long ago. i like the epic, emotional side of positive, i dont mind pop lyrics as long as its not too cheesy. this reminds me of sat night on the radio in the car on the way to the club:

Glad this thread came back around
All of Eskmo's productions make me feel warm and fuzzy inside
just wanted to pull my thread back from the dead from years ago to show how things have changed. i guess i was ahead of my time. back then dubstep was completely dominated by sparse and dark soundscapes. all i craved back then was a little brightness and positivity to balance it out. and now look what we have? trance step, nero etc.
producers should just listen to me about what scenes need when they make tunes, so i dont have to spend years mastering the technicalities of the craft. just put me in the chair and direct things, like rick rubin! thanks, that is all.

ive had this issue when playing at house nights so rather than posting 50 tracks ill give you 3 by 3 different artists...
1.jack sparrow - loveless
2.von d - the sunlight
3.jack dixon - substitute
these artists also do alot more on the same vibe, hope it helps
