If you want to make money then make some pop/trance.
This is so true... when I spend 2 weeks trying to make a dubstep tune and I preview it to friends I just get mild responses...

When I spend 5 seconds putting 4 heavy kicks at 128 bpm and just layer a few oscillators and sidechain it and filter automation they fucking love it... -_-

this personally for me is better being underground...underground gets alot of respect but doesnt get heard as much, commercial gets heard loads but has 800x amount of haters, depends what you can be arsed to cope with!

to be fair though, chase and status hold both ends of hte spectrum and theyre massively respected

I'd go for superstar any day, I don't need the respect of all of you people sitting in your moms basement browsing internets. I'd rather have groupies.

ha ha ha, seriously, there are no eyes large enough to effectively communicate the seriousness of that roll.

Personally I think you lot are completely full of shit, straight out lying to yourselves and everyone else. If I could wiggle my pinky and turn out million dollar hits, I'd never stop, I'd train myself to wiggle it in my sleep. Fact of the matter, no matter what I'm doing, I'm going to be making beats, beats just for me. Beats that no one will ever here. That's just who I am and what I do. I'd do that whether I'm working a day job or being a multi-platinum selling douche bag. Whatevers. I don't think any of you would turn down the money.

Life is short and expensive. There is a lot I'd like to do. I'll take the $$$, thank you.

I don't think I'm clever enough to be an underground legend, but I'd happily whore myself for either.

and the haters sound off. personally dont like C&S's music either. its highly polished and great sounding, which is probably why i dont like it. give me that raw rugged bass bass any day.

massive respect to funtcase, stay doing your thing man. rate you higher than C&S any day.

I would have to be underground legend on condition that said legendary status paid the bills and I didn't have to do a desk job anymore. Superstar riches would be great but it would come with a shit load of unwanted attention.

As long as I'm making the music I want to then I don't mind.

In response to all the people saying mainstream aspirations is making music for the wrong reasons - Id like to ask them who the fuck made the rules of music making??

"Rule no#1 - there are no rules when making music*

*with exception to rule#2 which states that mainstream success is strictly prohibited because the people on dsf think it makes you instantaneously lose any prior musical talent or skill you had previously acquired"

Depone - Im thinking the riches and the bitches sound pretty good :D

seriously though, who here doesnt actually respect chase and status, wether you like them or not, they are fucking great producers, they churn out nothing but hits and can make any style. that for me is a respectable talent, wether or not you do roll your eyes at them coz you dont like their music

i agree with rule no2 from the above

Now now famous youtube boy... Less of your lip, climb back into your cage of arrogance through fame. :t:

Lol nah seriously though, I fail to even see why people put a line between mainstream superstar and underground legend these days... 3 big examples I'd like to give would be:

a.) Wiley - King of grime, respected by every respectable grime fan (as opposed to the dickhead 'oi blad fuck this nex Wiley shit it's old fam, it's all about ARE YOU GANA BANG that shit is hard, rarrrr that guy can rhyme' type.) Anyway, my point is... Been in the charts... Number 1. Mainstream superstar and Underground legend much?

b.) Russell Brand - Mainstream superstar, movie star, going out with Katy Perry, amazing comedian... Lives in a council flat?

c.) The IRA - Known worldwide, massively famous... Hated by many, still seen as keeping the 'peace' more than the police in certain parts of Ireland...

Come on, you people who are passionate about this subject are over analysing it and probably fail to hear different to what your mind is set upon.

I haven't heard all that much by cs, but what I have heard is just the limpest drivel, so much so that I've actively avoided further exposure to cs. I don't have to respect them for making hits. I don't have to respect exxon for making billions polluting the environment and heating up the world.

Just like you don't have to respect me when I'm wiggling my pinky, turning out tripe, stacking my dough (theoretically, within the context of this thread :])
