If you're famous for producing a certain style of music and you want to experiment in a different area, do it under an alias. That way, if the tunes flop, nobody will care, and b/c nobody knows it's you - it doesn't damage your name. But if your new tunes blow up and you become huge, people will be astonished and wonder how you did it and pour 3x the praise in your lap.

Case study: Joey Youngman making electro under the name Wolfgang Gartner.

If all of a sudden 'Joey Youngman', funky house producer, started putting out tunes like "Hook Shot", his fans would be like wtf is this? and be turned off. But people started to love his new tracks w/o ever having heard of this 'newcomer'. And once his identity was revealed, the entire world (ie: me) had much respect for his ability to be multi-talented.

no true artist would 'hedge their bets' this way, you change your name to provide a new aesthetic, not to have a chance to escape if nobody but you appreciates it.

Seriously, I'm SO FUCKING SICK of all the cool guys on this forum who bash big names.

If I posted that exact tune on the dubs section, everyone would be like

Nice choon bruv, 320!

Massive!

Nice production skillz mate!
actually I'd probably tell you your tune sucks dick.
Well that would be rather rude of you then. It's unfortunate that you would be so disrespectful of another artist, but I guess the joys of internet anonymity turns everyone into raging douchebags.

ambient bits are doing things, but man that synth work is fucking pathetic, totally kills any vibe comin from the tune. this just sounds like most of the crap in the dubs section

You would seriously tell someone their songs literally suck dick and think that's going to help them improve? There are ways of telling someone their tunes need work or aren't quite up to par in certain aspects without resorting to such discouraging words, I'd hate to see your proteges

saying "sucks dick" is far from constructive tbf. you sound like a united fan

Not feeling this atall due to the typical 'Brostep' style synth which newcomers seem to think this scene is all about.

And the reason people knock bigger names is because they are big names for a reason. Good tunes and high quality so when they make a tune that is pretty shit people are suprised and your not expecting that from someone on a forum that just makes tunes as a hobbie. So thats why you might get better responses than what he is getting.

And Mattron , nice and blunt.

This is rather pony. I would have much preferred to hear him do a pill tastic gurn epic emo-thon style tune like Jaded or not exactly but with a dubstep aesthetic.
The midrange synths are harsh and not very intersting. Disapointed :(
