Some thoughts Piston: I think it's worth remembering that quite a lot of people "into" pop music because they're simply not interested in music enough to not be. This isn't a bad thing. Having "good" taste in music doesn't make you a better person; it makes you a different person... I spend most of my life listening to music and because I'm an inquizitive and obsessive sort of chap, I spend a lot of my life trying to find new music. When my girlfriend gets bored of her soundtrack, she just flicks on T4 and sees what takes her fancy. To her, a lot of music I listen to is repetative, droney and in some cases, actively unpleasant or even boring. I could say the same about her music... our ears certainly have very different tastes. I like pop music (in fact I love a lot of it), but I find it difficult to listen to things that I consider to be utterly vaccuous - Amy has music on in the background... she gets annoyed if music is too involved as it distracts her from the other stuff she's doing!

Meeting/observing someone in the pop music section of an HMV might not be the best way to get a full evaluation of that person's life. Just because their music interest is limited doesn't mean they're not interesting in other ways... for instance, if you watched my lady picking up Britney and Gaga CDs in HMV you probably wouldn't realise she's a pretty hardcore Thespian who used to put one-woman shows about rape whilst completely starkers.

We all find music VERY important and find it a bit difficult to understand when someone else doesn't - it's easy to think there's something wrong with them because they're so "different". I imagine there are football fans who feel the same way when someone says "Oh, the World Cup's on?" or car obsessives who simply can't get their head around why anyone would even consider driving a Perodua Nippa. :)

I haven't missed the point and I am not denying the overall point at all, merely providing an additional insight which may not be picked up on by those not in the know

It is not pedantic to suggest that the reason a director os wearing a t shirt is because the t shirt in question is from a band that the director toured with

I would however say it is pedantic to suggest that he is in on a conspiracy completely unrelated because of said t shirt.

However, the fact that the article writer states 'may be aware' excuses the fact that they are wrong so that is fair enough, a little background information can change a viewpoint entirely

yeah of course man...there is more to all of us...i wouldn't deny that....many people seek to stifle their own potential though!

i wasn't saying btw that these people are retards because they like pop music...i was saying many people that buy the sort of thing we are talking about seem special in a non conventional sense....in away i strongly suspect is intrinsically involved with their music choices...the biggest example is the jls album actually...teenage girls that really seem to have possibly lost intelligence over time as opposed to being just downright stupid...

not all i say again...just a lot and those people never buy anything that engages thought of any kind...

i have friends that dont care about music that range from gymnasts to youth workers...i know what you mean but that wasnt really my point mate :D

i get to deal with a massive selection of the public...most of my coworkers would agree with what im saying to a huge extent...why do you think it's the case?

@ DRTY if you don't believe in the illuminati does that mean you don't believe in freemasonry? or the knights templar (in the past at least)??

I'd lean to thinking it was the natural skew that you get from working in an industry... I work in IT and most people I work with consider the "average person" to be an absolute moron incapable of and unwilling to understand basic technical concepts. That's plainly not true - most real people I meet are perfectly willing to listen/learn. I think all industries stereotype their customers a bit... it's natural because the bad customers are the ones that leave the memories.

I'm sure you're right to a certain extent... I think it's the degree of it all that I'm not sure about and I'm genuinely not convinced about the global conspiracy angle - I tend to think humans are naturally sex-obsessed, social-climbers... and I think that as a result most humans will naturally do their best to find a mate and become as "successful" as possible, however that success is defined in their little slice of society.

What happened, IMHO, during the 20th Century is that the masses got the financial freedom to express those impulses. Prior to WW2 and especially prior to the 20th Century, the average person in the Western World couldn't afford luxuries... they couldn't afford holidays, couldn't afford fancy food, fancy clothes or even proper medical care... suddenly as things got wealthier and wealthier, free time and spare cash rocketed up and we spent it on..... sex and social climbing! Whereas in previous centuries, the musical legacy was left behind by the heavily trained upper-classes, the 20th Century handed the baton to the people... pop music became simpler, more immediate and more overtly sex-obsessed.

Although it's not necessarily a positive thing, I don't see any reason to believe in people behind the scenes machinating pop acts and movies that subvert society - I think that wealthy (whether that be from money or some other construct) human society naturally moves to being more obsessed with sex and social-success - they're our most natural forms of gratification... the lowest common denominator that we can almost all get on board with.

that's because this is what your convictions are based on mostly
i totally believe that pop culture and all media/school/religions are used to form and manipulate the masses, but usually the arguments made here to support the idea are jokes

didn't you used to have a go at people, particularly magma, for getting involved in your threads when they weren't agreeing with you
remember you saying if you don't agree why post in here in the first place?

i put your own question to yourself, not that i'm going to be able to see your answer

read again what i said to magma, this opinion you have on me is as correct as most of the things you and your new found teacher put out every day. and the error it's in your system, not mine, so i don't care how you perceive me, i'm just doing you a favor and give you a chance to correct yourself, because you're a good man on a bad path

This whole thread is made of ludicrous inferences. I came to the end of my "conspiracy" trip some years back with a lifelong lesson: than any group of phenomena can be organised to fit a wide variety of conclusions.

Covering her eye symbolises the eye-in-the-triangle? I mean dude, rofl, just because it seems that way to you (and it's no surprise that it does seem that way, given that people are receptive to such associations based on the things they come across in their lives, things they are interested in) doesn't mean it is that way, just that it might be. Sooner or later you're gonna have to stop insulting people because they don't see it like you do - because you're fundamentally doing the exact same thing they are. Your brain is interpreting ambiguous signals and arranging them to give the appearance of order. The order, of course, has a subjective character: you see what you expect to see.

The one thing that always got on my nerves about people starting this trip is how they lose their sense of objectivity as soon as they're out the gate. At the end of the day you don't know a damned thing, same as everyone else, so try and have some humility when you're attempting to convince other people of your ideas. They're not "idiots" for believing the contrary to you, granted you might have leapt out of the standard "reality tunnel" and into one populated with all kinds of stuff which seems to make sense, and seems to have some explanatory power, but when all is said and done everyone's just bartering for how they see the world and as long as you've got a dogma to defend you're gonna ignore parts of the picture.

Goes for "conspiracy buffs" and "norms" alike. Regard everything with scepticism, no matter what there's always the chance you're wrong.

p.s. if anyone's really interested, read Karl Popper on demarcation with regards to Marxism, incessant stream of confirmations etc. Applies to all theories like this.

soooo much wrong with that, unless your talking to alien pimp

think you'll find any insults are dished out in response to jokes, insults, or general trollery, not just for having a different opinion
i'm more than happy to debate this stuff, no-one ever seems to do that though, just troll
