Sorta seems like he's implying it to me.

and from that quote it sorta seems like timbaland is also a 15 year old from london posting on a grime forum, while we all know he is a longtime talented & successful musician who has been making bass driven music at all sorts of tempos for as long as some people here have been alive.

so sick of the hype... take off your blinders people... fuck "dubstep" its just a word... get with the essence..

and so called music journalists who are just out to shine off other peoples talent by creating false drama and hype, while adding absolutely NOTHING, are fucking scum parasites

Yeah he is a chump for saying that but bar Todd Edwards, there wasn't a more influential producer stateside on UK underground 'urban' music than Timbaland. Especially from 1999-2003. That was the key period. It doesn't suprise me then to hear that people have sucked him off saying shit like that when he has come over here. The ego has done the rest, or it has been taken out of context.

I would love to know which producers in the Dubstep scene would actually name Timbaland as an influence on their music.

not sure if i'm "in the scene" or not but i would definitely count him as an influence. I had an hour long all Timbaland mix on repeat for months.

Q: Where was this guy / Who was this guy FIVE years ago?

His ego certainly seems to have gone way beyond the bounds of his influence. I wouldn't have thought Horsepower/El-B etc were referencing Timbaland when they started laying down those first gritty tunes way back when....

Q: Who does this guy THINK he is, again?

I'm not a fan. Especially not of Americans taking British concepts and palming them off as their own.

Really, he's got a point, if you look at it timeline wise.

A lot of early minimal grime/dark garage productions (which was a precursor to dubstep, despite the attempts by a lot of you to pretend it isn't) were massively influenced by Timbaland beats. In fact, if you listen to Nasty Crew sets from '99/'00, you've got Mak10 and Jammer playing timbaland beats at 70 bpm in with the garage. Same with Heartless and a lot of other crews at the time.

The beat structure of this era of timbaland beats is massively influencial, as is the heavy use of sub bass and the similarities are strikingly obvious.

but yeah OMG TIMBLANAD IS ON STEROIDS AND HE MAKES TUNES WITH NELLY FIRTARDO WOT A NOB

It's funny because if you listen to a few of eminens older tunes on a sub, they have a lot more weight than anything Timberland has made.

Stupid American trying to take credit for an underground scene that he knew fuck all about til recently.

If you think making a tune that can influence people to make a sort of music is the defining of a genre then shouldn't The Bug be crowned king?

He is been doing bass music back when I was still eating packed lunches and drinking water from a beaker at school.

But, also takes a little more than making a few tunes to define a genre, let alone a scene in it's entirety.

^Wot he said.

BUT: I am not for a minute claiming that Timbaland invented dubstep. He was important in the evolution of half-step though.

I do agree that is sensationalist journalism however.
