I once met an Irish folkie who said he'd repeatedly had people complain after he'd played a traditional jig set or an Irish air because they wanted something "properly Irish" and then go nuts if he played 'Dirty Old Town', a tune written by a scotsman, in England, about Manchester.

The Pogues were cool on anyones terms, though.

And Guiness is mass produced shite with good marketing.

Not wanting to shit on anyone's national self-identity btw. But wrapping a romantic notion of 'irishness' up with guiness is like wrapping a romantic notion of englishness up with motorway service stations. Only more predictable and less interesting.

The other day we went to one of the Little Chefs Heston Blumenthal (legend) did over... it wasn't bad actually, kind of like alright pub food. Wouldn't want to go to one of the proper microwaveable omlette places, though.

it's also quite ironic that, for most of history up until about 30 years ago or so, it was tradition for Irish pubs to be closed on St Patrick's Day....... :?

So I'm comin straight atchya from the Westside of Connemara
Bedding banshee ho's on the Hills of the Tara
Bussing lyrical flava like an Irish Bill Bailey
I'm gonna smash ur glock with my handmade shelayleigh.

Our homecut peat grows the meanest green,
So we can keep chasing those rainbows, if you know what I mean.
You better watch that pot of gold, you leprechaun hater
Cos me and my crew are gonna sneak up and bait ya

ok - i know i kinda run out at the end... but i've had a bit too much coffee this morning :P
