Dood, I may have! Does a 250 disk kill a 100 drive? I had both of my zip 250 drives stolen, and the thieves left me with ONE unlabeled zip disk, I put it in my asrx to see if it was one of my old asrx disks. Click of death...

how far can u push the scsi craze????

ive always asked myself if there'd be a way to hookup my 3000 with something better.. like ... a harddrive which would be hooked to my mac as well..

for the moment i will use the Scsi drive for my cpu and the one inside my unit... switching disks back n forth when necessary... and ill mostly use sampling digi/analog.

any options i didnt mention?

ive ALWAYS wondered about how i could use a sampler to actually create wavetable patches... even before i knew about wavetable synthesis... it just sounded so intense to me... so that bit about the eps and asr really got me interested... any other experiences about that...

not too many experiences, as I just bought the EPS in December and only figured out how to do this a few weeks ago... just in time for the new semester.
As far a I remember, I tried MIDI-mapping sample start and loop/length in Ableton's Sampler, and it wouldn't let me. What am i missing here?

Ableton is perfect for wavetables because when you put wave files sequentially on a track, it crossfades them a bit. Thats why you get the colors of the 2 different clips blending where they meet up. you can turn on/off this function somewhere in prefs. If you didn't use a tool like this, and something like audacity/wavelab to cut/paste different segments into wave files, I'd imagine that it would be click and pop hell when moving the index across the table.

When I did this on the EPS, I had used Ableton to prepare my tables. When playing on EPS, I noticed that if you moved the loop to where it was looping between two of the waveforms so that both waveforms represented about half of the loop each, it was a major sweet spot. Basically aim for something like a "double cycle loop length". The individual waves in the table shouldn't be long, but don't make them too short either, i'd say aim for 0.25-0.50 seconds. I didn't really take the time to calculate anything as far as loop length, just went by ear.

The wavetables I used were a heavy FM bass synthed from Operator (8 variations), and a pad i made on the Wavestation with some well thought out wavesequencing. Didn't have to chop the pad up, it was long and evolving, with a slower wavesequence. I just played middle C str8 into the EPS, for about 2 seconds. I had great results from both. I messed with some drumloop samples too, funky drummer, etc. - im afraid this takes a lot more brain power

Also, obviously, here you want to have all individual waveforms in the table to be the same amplitude. I did this by eye/ear, looking at the waveforms and listening. I bet something like normalization would work too.

These are only the basic principles I'm using here, I'm sure someone else has something better to say on the topic.

one of the things that irritates me (like right now) remember to have the sampler powered on before your comp so it gets picked up as a scsi device.
nothing like firing everything up getting ready to setup some patches and sampler layouts only to remember you have to reboot your machine

This is a well known error man, and that's what mine did within minutes of booting. Solution: take completely apart, clean with compressed air, antistatic brush, shop-vac if necessary, and apply generous amounts of Hosa DeOxit, especially where the two PCB's of the keybed meet. Theres some type of connection there, depending on if urs went back to the factory or not. This requires taking most/all of the keys out also. If there's a ribbon cable present, replace with a hardwired connection. If this doesn't work, its more than likely the power supply. Any decent tech should be able to do a rebuild for a reasonable price.

If I have any problems, the first thing I do is spray it with that shit. It's the fix-all for everything; this is the equivalent of hillbillies and duct tape.

As far as SCSI drives.... My RS7000 uses FAT16 as its file system. At one point, I had the rs attached to a SyQuest SyJet 1.5gb Scsi-2 sampler, which then was in turn connected to my adaptec scsi adapter on windows XP. I was able to transfer between the PC and the RS this way, using the drive as an intermediary. This was possible because of the FAT16 file system, windows can read/write to it. This cannot be done with Ensoniqs, E-Mus, Rolands, and Akai's because they don't use a compatible file system. BUT... I think Chicken Systems Translator had some kind of tool where you could partition/format a scsi drive with those respective file systems. Translator then does the work of reading that proprietary file system so you can access the files to/from windows.

But it has been many years since I've done this.

ahh man, I appreciate that info but I sold my ensoniq's back in the day and I really dont miss them

re the scsi buss, don't you have an option to rescan the buss or something like that, for when new devices are added?
