and well i dont know the exact proper meaning for transpose, but i suppose if you transposed a melody, yes it would be in a different key. but when im talking about transposing percussion hits, i just mean like changing the pitch. percussion is normally unpitched so your not really changing it to a different note, but you can tell that it is at a lower pitch/frequency. in some blawan tracks though you can see he kind of makes a melody out of the percussion, even though they have no definite pitch, he is transposing them relative to pitched intervals so, the intervals between the pitched percussion hits makes you think its playing a western scaled melody.
Does it sound like there is more than one drum changing the same pitch? Like groups of drums changing the same?
well i dont know how blawan works, but if it were me, i wouldnt make a percussion loop, and then transpose the whole thing down, im just talking about doing it to single hits.

if you mean 'what you do' then i dont see where your coming from, sound like just a rimshot, snare and clap combination

I thought it was just a rimshot alone and was wondering how you get them sounding like that. Heard them in old garage records but I have no idea how to get them sounding like that.

I would be surprised if it was a rim, snare and clap combo tbh.

you are talking about 'what you do with what you have' by blawan right? to me that sounds like a whip cracking clap, there might not be any rimshots on there.

as for burial sounds, and probably earlier blawan tunes, it sounds like maybe rimshots pitched down, and especially in burials case his beats sound filter, cutting the highs out of alot of the percussion. in old garage id say they were more pitched up rimshots and snares.

Yeh the one in the blawan track. A whip cracking clap?! i agree on the low pass filter tho!

Why don't you just name the track :)

Think you could achieve a snare like that by EQing out the low part of a house clap and put some reverb on it.

Just a good smacking mid-range transient, wooden base, with a short reverberation tail.

yeah, its like i dunno if pitching down a rimshot would doo this, maybe banging two drum sticks but that still doesnt really have the weight, and crack of this. he may have smapled himself hitting a large piece of wood or something

Is this snare close? Just eq'd out the highs and excited the mids.

Yeh that sounds alone the right road mate!

Could you show what you started with by any chance?

A low pass and then EQ boost mid range on a snare was it? I never boost anything ever, maybe I should...

Who cares if it sounds like Blawans snare, I like your track better than that Fram one anyway.

Doesn't quite top Peaches though :)

That's the sample there. Yeah I just rolled off some high end with FL's Parametric EQ, real gradual curve to make it sound natural. Then used the exciter in Ozone 4, brought up the mid band to around 200hz and boosted slightly, also raised some high end air again to bring out some grit. Just bounced that and back in the sampler.
Blawan still has a shitload more mid-range and whack though, at least it's a starting point for you maybe Serox :)

And thanks guys, it's still not something I'd be happy to continue on though.

Cheers highbot. Can I ask where you got that snare? its a nice starting point and reminds me of some old pack I had once that had 1000s of drums in it. It was one of the best packs I have ever seen and I have tried my hardest to find it again with no success.

It's the 'Hit Kit V3' sample pack. Think it was suggested by a Legend4ry on here. ;-)
