Distance is the only top level DJ with a style that NO ONE has tried to mimic successfully...

exactly, he is my favourite producer, because he's so unique. and doesnt just churn out tunes that sound exactly the same.

Ramadanman by a landslide? Really?

i dont really see how Rama cant win it this year, his output and the quality of it all has been incredible for me

for those touting Distance, he's had some good releases this year, Beyond is pretty much my favourite dubstep tune of the year, but he's got 3 12's out compared to Rama's 6 or something under that name, 3-4 under other names... out of which i couldn't really name a track i dont like (except a few off his EP)

for me (which is what this award is, a personal opinion tally) he's got it hands down. he's had such a good year

i agree, compare excision or reso to any chronos tune and it's laughable...

i mean, really chronos, enough with the bitcrushers and formants, we get it
But if you look at the voting (and I know it isn't the end of the world) but you can see they have a decent following of people which respect what they're putting out.

It's just odd for me.

To be honest I know it's a tired old fucking argument, but I implore you to listen to it anyway... here we go....

I respect the fact that not everyone likes the sound that we put out, however similarly I ask those who don't to take note of the following. It's a key part of what we enjoy doing to take on a lot of young and fresh artists who in some cases are still finding their sound. I am fully aware of the arms length list (at least) of negative things people have to say about the brosteppy sound, and I am not here to argue the toss about those as like with most musical arguments or points of view they have valid routes and those that convey them are entirely entitled to field them.

The nature of the 'filth' facet of the genre is one which conforms to a totally different set of criteria than that which the people that take offence to what we do like to see adhered to in a dubstep track. While I will reiterate, that point of view is completely fine to be entitled to, it does not preclude those artists that have another or share both from having the right the make the music that they enjoy making.

A lot of people really like what we've achieved this year, and it's not for lack of hard work and a real love of the music that we put out. While it's not for everybody's taste, there are a large quantity of people that really enjoy it, which has been reflected by the success that I am proud and hugely grateful to say we have enjoyed.

I am not going to say that I enjoy all sorts of dubstep, as I don't. I am not of the ilk that will frown on those who I personally do not enjoy listening to.

Whilst I have no problem with people branding us 'shit', or 'brostep' or whatever myriad slates that they may cast us as, one thing I do not think is fair is to lambaste us for being nominees and for receiving support in the awards. I expected nothing from them and was surprised and elated to have received a nomination. I am really pleased that we've got enough fans out there to have recognised us for what has been a really hard working year and recognise the artists, who despite whether or not you value their production have worked fucking hard. Not a lot of artists get the chance to get that sort of recognition and it's made us consistently pleased over the last 12 months to allow them the opportunity to receive it.

It's a little bit easy when people aren't on the same page musically to present arguments like this, however in a set of awards which are open to all avenues of a genre, it's a shame that it inevitably boils down to the same contradictory and narcissistic patter.

If you don't like us then that's absolutely fine, however I think to say that people don't deserve success when eat sleep and breathe their part of whatever scene... is a bit of a cheap shot.

A can remember having a discussion with a flatmate who was into rock music who would blanket tell me that Vitalic were shit because using a computer to make music was easy and irrefutably not as good.

Fuck me it was like banging my head against a brick wall and this broken record stance is the same

Dj seizure, thank you for what is at least a fair opinion

I noted after posting the spelling could be better.

I'm aggrieved to change it... I'm secretly hoping it might support the underdog/sympathy aspect to my opinion :D

rama is top though because of consistency of output; so many top level releases this year as noam has said, where all but maybe some tracks on the self titled hessle ep are unforgettable; he has explored and bridged many sounds, exploring 115ish-170ish and still sounding fresh; he has never recycled any of his sounds to the point where it detracts from the experience of the music (though that one is mostly IMO); he is still young and has a lot to offer the music.

no homo or anything but rama/whatever he calls himself nowadays is fucking insane.

oh, and chronos records, good points and big up for sticking by them, if people dont like a sound theres no point in slating those that do, they should support what they like rather than bring down what they dont like. party politics reflecting itself in music culture, smh. i guess its human nature but still.

(serious point is serious)

i dont think Distance is underated at all tho man??

he gets praise from deep heads and hard heads, he's got a very successful label, he has releases and collaborations with top artists, and he has a sound which is undeniably recognisable to anyone who knows anything about dubstep

i just think whatever happens in these types of awards there are people who won't be happy with the results and will find numerous ways to voice their displeasure whereas in reality, anyone nominated and voted for has won in the eyes of the people who voted for them

fair point. i just think he deserved to be a bit higher. i think "underrated" was the wrong way to put it

To be honest as much as Chronos' music doesn't do anything for me at all I don't think it's fair to complain about them being nominated.

I mean they've managed to get there with new pretty unknown producers and without cheap spamming. Think about it. It's not like Skrillex getting there with his gimmicky style, MTV "Prince Of Dubstep" title and Deadmau5 backing. They've done it simply through building up fan support from scratch I would guess which is something I respect. I personally don't know why they're getting more votes than some of the other labels which have impressed me in the list, but I think it's a bit unfair to start acting like the awards have somehow stopped being about the music people like.
