People retain the right to do whatever the fuck they want without harming others. I don't care about 'integrating' or 'assimilating' into society. How integrated are most people, anyway? Individuals differ from each other far more than various groups of people do. A lot of my morals and thoughts differ as much from the next Dutch guy as Dutch morality differs from, let's say, Turkish, but you don't hear people complaining about me.
To me, the best fix would be if the government itself stopped viewing as groups, and more as individuals.

like in anyway there is a case to be made that your apparent rights upon living in a country should be determined by your linguistic skills.

Well, i can't speak french very well - if I move to a french speaking country and I want a job, I should probably think about learning some french. its in my best interest to learn as the more fluent I become, the better jobs i can get, the more money i can get. whats wrong with that?

Communication is essential for any good relationship!
If you fail to try & integrate yourself into the culture, why are you there?
If you are there for a better life & to take advantage of their opportunities...
why would you hinder yourself?
You lot are lucky in Europe, you are able to move around different counties relatively easy.
I live on the other side of the world, & my country is two big islands!
I guess this may be why I grasp the differences in cultures.
BUT... I will debate religion with anyone.
I like the historical accounts & stories, but my god is pure energy.
It has no consciousness... but like DNA, is ingrained with the knowledge of all things that have lived.
tis my own belief based upon my own thoughts.
out of all the Abrahamic religions... I prefer the Sunni Muslims.

i think this conversation is more relevant to mexicans/puerto ricans/other latino subgroups in this country though, especially with the size of the population and the language barrier.

Not necessarily. The more people talk about "muslims" as a them and a victim the more muslims will see themselves as a victim and the more other will think there's a problem with them.

Americans are racist against anyone who isn't a WASP. Apart from the coastal states, all that space you see in between is basically prairie hicks, mountain hillbillies, tea party activists, and southern rednecks.

Sometimes I wish I had a poorer grasp of English, so I could piss off nationalistic dickheads.
...but alas, I speak with the diction of a truly Westernized pretentious douchebag.
I HAVE pretended to be a recent immigrant in certain college classes simply so the professors would go easy on me, and it has worked fairly well.
I got the idea when I was asked to proofread an essay by another student who had recently just come from Spain in an English class...it was terrible, but we both ended up getting the same grade.
...and that's when I realized I need to be banking on the whole immigrant thing.
