Harriet Harman, the minister for Women, has renewed her attack on the financial industry, describing it as a "breeding ground for discrimination", after it emerged that women working in the City were being paid as much as 60 per cent less than their male counterparts.
Men in the sector are also receiving nearly 80 per cent more in perks and bonuses, according to figures from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).
Curious as to whether that 80 per cent takes into account job roles, etc. or whether it simply sums up across the board. There are definitely fewer women in top roles so it would probably skew the percentage a lot given how fat those cats at the top are. The question of course is why there are fewer women at the top. Is it as simple as pure discrimation, or are there other factors at play?
With regards the politician statistics, again, much fewer women than men. But is this because of discrimination, or is it because women aren't silly enough to want to do things like that?
Across the board it also seems that there are generally less women working than men. Yet there are more women than men. So where are all these missing women? They can't all be housewives, can they?
I would happily be amenable to complete equality, and stay at home to be a househusband to raise the kids.

In the interest of equality I'd like it if women came up to me and tried to get me drunk enough to sleep with them.

Haha yeah this would be nice... That said, if a girl came up to me for this reason i probably wouldn't even need the drink to be convinced, simply showing an interest is good enough for me (come to think of it the only time a girl genuinely did approach me in a club, i didn't know how to respond so i panicked and just walked off... on reflection not the best move)

Have you ever been to a football match? Linesman and the ref get so much shit its unbelieveable, especially at lower levels (which she must have worked her way up through) Shes gonna get alot more and even worse shit from the fans, this is nothing.
So in the end Andy gray is fired for a sexist joke on air, yet the loose women on daytime tv can generalise and insult men all they want?
As i said, double standards.

im sure you never complain about something that just affects you
Yeah, so If I spill boiling water on my hand while I'm cooking it can't annoy me because somewhere in the world someone is on fire
how does that relate? you seriously wana go there? lol
bear in mind its ladies' hours... not ladies' days.
go later in the day. go earlier. go before work. go right after it. to equate this with some sort of discrimination when what its trying to do is make it more appealing for the fat/overweight and older generation of women to be able to have some sort of leisure activity in comfort is dumb
Nah thats the problem with this pool, its just part of a secondary school. So its only open for a few hour or so slots most days. Most of that will be kiddie fun time with floats, which it aint about in the slightest. So theres only a few one hour slots a week you can go, and most of them are womens only. Its really not an ethical issue, I just want to be able to fucking swim lol
Oh, and im off there now Adults only business. Going to go pick me up some aged swimtang.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHA the glass ceiling has merely cracked, it is very much a patriarchal world.

Men in the sector are also receiving nearly 80 per cent more in perks and bonuses, according to figures from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).
Just a small random collection of stats.
A report published in 2008 found women and girls to be disproportionately sexualised across the media and popular culture and that a driving factor behind this is the mainstreaming of the sex industries, in particular pornography, lap dancing and prostitution (Object, May 2008).
In 2007/08, only 19% of MPs, and 20% of the House of Lords were female. From 2006 to 2007/8, the number of female members of the cabinet fell from 35% in 2006 to 26%. i
In 2007/08 only 26% of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are women.
In 2006 only one of the 26% of female MEPs was from a BME group.
In 2006, 29% of local authority councillors were women and only 0.9% were women from an ethnic minority background. Between 1997 and 2006 the number of women councillors from an ethnic minority background rose by just
To date, no region has reached the threshold of one-third female councillors.
In 2006, the Labour party has 31% women councillors; the Liberal Democrats have 32% and the Conservatives had 28%.
There is significant disparity between individual councils, for example Redcar and Cleveland has more female councillors than male, while North West Leicestershire has just 13% female councillors (2006 figures).
41% of parliamentary candidates have said that selection committees in their parties look more favourably on male than female candidates.
Research in 2008 found that more women were going into teaching than eight years ago, but their pay and promotion prospects still trailed behind men's.i The study commissioned by the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers found that:
A fifth of male primary teachers with between five and nine years experience are in leadership roles, compared with 8.5% of their female colleagues.
After 20 years' service, 70% of men are on their way to becoming head teachers, compared to just 40% of women.
In secondary schools, 3.5% of men with five to nine years experience are in leadership roles, compared with 2% of their female colleagues.
The gulf widens when male teachers have more than 20 years service. 24% of male teachers with more than 20 years service are on their way to becoming head teachers, compared with 15.7% of their female colleagues.
The career structure in teaching is not set up for career breaks so women with children fail to progress or leave.
my mums been a geography teacher from before i was born till now, im pretty sure its not under a womans ability to keep being a teacher after shes had a child
although theres perhaps still alot of covert sexism in the office theres definately a whole lot more a woman can do, and deemed more socially acceptable, and alot less blatent sexism
also

no thats not a funny joke, thats just mean. when people joke about that whole women not being able to do things they dont actually believe it, thats why it is a joke
noone is hoping people get treated badly

So in the end Andy gray is fired for a sexist joke on air, yet the loose women on daytime tv can generalise and insult men all they want?
As i said, double standards.
Of course not. But you can't possibly argue that women have the upper hand here. It's a man's world that much is obvious. Boo hoo, loose women on daytime TV are insulting men. It's irrelevant.
Have you ever been to a football match? Linesman and the ref get so much shit its unbelieveable, especially at lower levels (which she must have worked her way up through) Shes gonna get alot more and even worse shit from the fans, this is nothing.
You've missed the point of my post entirely. Do you understand the difference between 'getting shit' because you're a ref, and 'getting shit' because you're a FEMALE ref? Why don't you replace his insult of ''women'' with an ethnic slur. Still OK for you?

Any refs get shit, most of em becuase theyre fat, blind, whatever, they all get shit, its something to be expected. Keepers get shit, players get shit, managers get shit. Have you heard the songs about adabeyor? Theres will always be an element of it in football, im not saying its right, but thats what happens, you just have to deal with it like everyone else does.

No, I'm not just gonna ''deal with it''.
With that attitude, women wouldn't have any rights, and kids would still be sweeping chimney's.
He deserved to be fired, and anyone else who discriminates against anyone: women, men, whatever. No one needs to hear that shit.

Im just interested to know how familiar you are with english football. Particularly going to matches. If you think a few remarks like that is really that bad, then i suggest you avoid any live matches unless your sitting in the family stand. Even then youd probably still be quite offended.

I've never been to an English football match, but I am familiar, and if you support Arsenal then all might be forgiven.
Anywho, the difference is that..these are people screaming in stands while the other guys are sports commentators, and are on TV who should have been a bit more professional. There is a difference.
