I'm a machinima.com partner so I'm interested in giving this a shot

Could easily be done.
Yeah I found some pretty decent tunes on youtube.
Right now I'm just trying to decide if I want to use unmanipulated samples, or if I want to granulize the fuck out of them

I just downloaded some random game and cartoon samples and came up with this in like an hour lol most of the time was spent sifting through all the shit but yeh they are all unmanipulated.

Vectorman!
At one time I went through all my old cd-roms of different educational/game stuff I had and would hunt for .wav or any other useful file and there was a neat educational cd set on space and it has some neat samples of like the people in the space station talking about this and that. And the bass fishing game I have.
I bought a MOH game from goodwill the other day. It wasn't the one I thought it was, but I found a lot of neat samples on those cd's. The theme song that you hear in the main menu.... It gives me one of those chills when listening to it(the music in Jurassic Park as well). Listening to all of the sounds in the folder for dying sounds was funny.

Cheesy like the wilhelm scream.
Would there still be an issue with an uncleared sample if it wasn't the sample but an imitation of it? Like if I just recorded myself saying do a barrel roll.

I whipped this up today using some minecraft samples. I was gonna try to only use sounds from the game, but I caved and started using some stuff I made. Still sounds very minecrafty though

I'm sorry I don't have what you are looking for. If you have the portal sounds and upload them I would love to have them though

Megladon has used sounds and references to/from the left 4 dead series(which mike patton did most of the sound efx for)
its easy to pick up on when you have 3200 hours invested in.

Depends if its the words or the recording which are copyrighted - Sample clearance, sample rerecording and intellectual property are tricky ones..

As for HALF LIFE samples,,, i have ripped HL1 and will upload it along with the portal vox and endrun sequences.
(At the moment i just dont have the time to learn to rip the audio out of halflife2, i think their is a link in this thread on how to do it.) (wont be uploading till tonight btw)

Thank you for re uping the half-life samples man. If you had counter strike on your steam that'd be cool too.
