maybe that was a little harsh....

anyway, Mr. Revolution.... i'm guessing that you're below 20 years of age (call it a hunch)

real revolutions start in the street, in public. if you were out and about, setting banks on fire and coming up with clever chants, who knows someone might follow you.

but going online and saying "SKRILLEX FANS.....ASSEMBLE!!!! WE'VE HAD ENOUGH!" is not going to get you very far.

Inspired by Egypt and Tunisia, yeah? Time for a new revolution? You better be damn sure what you are getting into. Talk is one thing, action another. I don't think that appealing to people that like dubstep is going to start any revolution.

Revolutions (real, popular ones, that is) are rarely violent - it's the counter-revolution that is violent

Tunisia

Egypt

Libya

and yes, even Russia
Definitely agree. In the context of Russia, and Cuba i'd say, violence became a central part of the revolution and that's why the distribution of powers after the overthrow was undemocratic and eventually tyrannical. Maybe it has to do with the times. Maybe a peaceful revolution would rarely work before we had all this wonderful technology.

Cuba and Russia are two entirely different stories!

For a start, the Cuban Communist party established itself with a coup-d'etat and was modelled on Stalinism from the start. Not so in Russia: violence was not a central part of the revolution at all. Problems started after the revolution when the old order (basically the Tsarist army generals, landed aristocracy and some bourgeois sympathisers) started a civil war and attempted to seize power. And to top it all off they were supported by Britain, Germany and France who decided to invade as well! That was the beginning of the end for the new workers' state. It was the besieged / war mentality that led to the increased centralisation of power in Russia, as well as the fact that millions of young militants died, eroding the party's base. I wish people would do a bit more research on the subject before making speculations like that. (Sorry, don't mean to have a go but the amount of disinformation - or simply lack of interest - is frustrating.)
