^ this is so correct. we need you veterans to stick around. you guys are what makes this place. you guys are what will help us shallow tier teenagers become veterans so we can help the next crowd of youngsters trying to be skrillex lol.nowaysj wrote:Leg, I appear pessimistic, and to a large extent I am. This chapter is likely to be filled with inexperienced teenage producers sharing cobbled production half truths. Most of the experienced, talented, artistic producers have already left. This saddens me, honestly, because I've gained so much through dsfp. Not even joking that this place changed my life, and the way I work.
One potential solution is to have a two tiered forum, a shallow end, and a deep end (please don't mix metaphors here). It is clear that the google bot is sending every 15 yo producer with a cracked massive here. The board is over run with these people. If there was a separate area for more experienced producers, maybe, just maybe, dsf could retain some artistic/intellectual capital. Otherwise this board is going to be filled with myriad Chad the rapists, and no one of substance will remain.
I've argued against a two tiered dsfp several times over the years. But I've finally come around to the idea as a last ditch effort to keep something of value here on dsfp.
I've got nothing against the younger producers here, more power to them, and I vow to spend time in the shallow end fielding Fl Studio questions as well as general production questions, but I would really like to be able to carry on more serious conversations in peace.
you definitely have a point there. you are one of the reasons why i like visiting dsf every day. just cool moderators such as yourself make this place seem a little more chill than other forums I have been to where the moderator doesn't care about the members and would only pop up and interact with people at least once a month, and was way stricter.pete bubonic wrote:I think a lot of the problems stem from there being two very different types of producers here. As Nowaysj says, those just starting out and may have only found out about dubstep in the last couple of months and just wanna get feedback or make a datsik bass and fuck anything else. And those who have been on this thing for a while, have actual technical queries or involved discussion points. But to say it's beyond redemption is being melodramatic imo.
However, without specific reasons given or problems to address to stop the forum going shit, how can you improve it? The Grid on Dogs on Acid is still my number one spot for technical questions and alike, but it's been about for fucking years and years. It's had time to mature and the waves of new users who came to that board when they where young and rowdy (such as myself) have learnt a lot and chilled out.
I think some more compilation/how-to stickies could help, then all the repeated questions can go there and anyone who obviously doesn't read them or search before posting gets a warning straight up. But I don't want this place to be unfriendly, I want people to still be able to crack jokes and post pictures of themselves, or even link to tunes they're currently feeling.
Things do need to be labelled ultra clearly, I thought the changing of the feedback/free320 tags to icons in the dubs forum was a mistake, because it didn't make it fucking blatantly obvious what meant what. And now that forum looks very much like it did before we started tagging things altogether.

this is also true. I mean can you veterans just tolerate us for at least a few more years? all of us youngsters in a few years will most likely be talking about the same thing you guys are talking about. we are the next dsf generation don't worry some of us have a bit of maturing to do but help us so we may help the people after us.lyons238 wrote:^ this is so correct. we need you veterans to stick around. you guys are what makes this place. you guys are what will help us shallow tier teenagers become veterans so we can help the next crowd of youngsters trying to be skrillex lol.nowaysj wrote:Leg, I appear pessimistic, and to a large extent I am. imo you guys are what keeps this place from being a complete and useless zoo.

I feel like just because you produce what is termed "brostep" it doesn't immediately makes you an immature tool who is generally just bad at forums, and lacks general production skill.
Alot of producers come to mind when i think of some people who produce brostep that are very technically savvy intelligent, and at the top of the production game, and are not completely immature squares.
I think what alot of experienced users feel like the forum lacks is general insightful discussion for those who generally already know how to work their daw.
I for example would love to see an in depth discussion on delays and stereo wideners, as that has been my latest focus, but will we ever get one in this forum?
probably not.
The fact of the matter remains that due to high energy dubstep (brostep, jumpstep whatever you want to call it) it is extremely popular with the younger folks due to the fact that they were raised in a 100% digital environment and have an attention spam of about a millisecond.
now stay with me here, i'll try not to stray too much from the topic.
because of this, we have an influx of younger individuals who plague this board, filling it with highschool esque non-sense and not even witty retorts and responses.
but it's not their fault, their brains arn't fully developed.
and let's get real, it is very rare that they have the technical prowess as those who have been doing this shit for years, it's just generally not possible (keep in mind, there are always exceptions to ever rule!)
really the only hope for this board is to do what i suggested eons back.
to be admitted you must have been registered for a set point of time, and be voted into the "island" by the other users.
seems like alot of work, but it will cut down in 110% of the stupid bullshit that is not even remotely crucial to expanding our production skill.
With this in mind, if we remain proactive, we can move this genre foward, rather than backwards, as it is starting to go.
restart the producer ?'s.
Let's write some solid tutorials for others.
Have some insightful discussions.
And make the music better for everyone.
