Manic Harmonic wrote:If you want to edit the midi using your daw, go to batch settings on each group and set each group all notes on its own designated midi channel. Create a midi channel track in your daw and edit the notes in there with maschine in midi control mode. That's how you do it in logic at least but it should be a similar concept. I know in logic you have to create a new multichannel instrument in the environemnt window, I don't know how that part would differ in another daw. But its a similar concept to using reason in rewire mode.
There is a whole-nother world waiting for me in terms of using maschine within my daw. I never have. I've always used it in standalone mode. Think I may continue doing that for the time being. Then again, I can use my daw within maschine, so maybe I'll try that. hahaha! madness.

for me personally that's really where the full potential is, with integration. Its so awesoje though that it runs in standalone too, much easier to knock out ideas. And when you're using it in your daw you can still use the vsts. I can actually use abletons vsts in maschine when using logic. Madness!

Totally tangential, but @ fragments - this book:

http://noisesculpture.com/how-to-make-a-noise

How to Make a Noise is a great resource to learn synthesis. As well, Zeta is used as an example synth (along with others) throughout the book, and the whole drum/perc synthesis section uses Zeta, chea!!! To my knowledge he just made this book freely downloadable. Thanks to another poster in dsfp sharing this information, I finally have a copy of this book!

Check it.

been working in maschine more, getting to know it. Its great for knocking out beats i gather, but i kind of feel like i'm missing something.
it took me awhile to track with it, bc i always hated kontakt's outputs and their numbering system, this seems kinda the same. The way i did it is just soloing sound after sound and tracking out loops form each sound group. Anyone got tips for quicker tracking with maschine or do i just have to realize/memorize that "output 4" is something like "maschine output 11+12" in my host

Can't help, everything I've done is in standalone mode.

i use standalone to write, but i don't understand how you would track or mix anything inside maschine. gonna have to keep workin at it, i have yet to properly use the slicing sampler.... prob a lot more i have to figure out.

I don't like that if a sample is hanging over the end of a scene, it cuts it off when the next scene begins, even if the sample's sustain and release are up. kinda feels liek its disregarding what i told it to do. is this just something i'm doing wrong, or does maschine behave this way? i have to elongate a scene if it's got a sample hanging over the bar line and I want it to track out in full..

done some resampling which is seamless and great, but again in plugin mode, i can't figure out how to sample from external source.

Are you doing any arranging on the fly with it Philly? or more creating grooves and loops?

Really want to see how it developing my arrangements

Have been creating grooves and loops on the fly mostly and then arranging them afterwards, been doing more and more arranging on the fly as i get better at it for sure.

Super intuitive piece of gear, makes workflow really smooth.
Have fun man im sure you'll get hooked.

p.s make sure you install the updates.
I agree Philly, super intuitive kit and also making me really appreciate the old hiphop /mpc days. Bring whole new level to making beats. I'm currently trying to nail down my timing to be able to play beats live... tuff haha

I've mainly been using it standalong at the moment, though I have found when I had it as VST in ableton the looping function on samples didnt work and a few other little things. It's something I keep meaning to scope out on the NI forums to be honest... You found a solution yet?

Same here in Logic, tempo sync and loop don't work... there's ways around in but kind of too much of a pain to be worth it tbh.

if your talking the slicer, the auto tempo thing does NOT work in my experience, and it just didn't do anything good for me when i set it manually. I'm over it. But if you mean just looping a sample to get it to play continuously, like a sustained note... that's in the "edit" screen when you click the waveform-looking icon (as opposed to the pads icon or keyboard icon, on the left of the group editor)

Will try and use maschine within flstudio in the next couple of days. Am in a bit of a down time, am going to be doing some installing, and moving shits about, see what the dealio is with maschine as a vst.

i dunno how else you'd really USE it... i mean other than to write, but then unless you are tracking maschine, why write in it?

I have been using that solo button on each group and each subsequent sound individually. I put an aux stereo send on the instrument track maschine is on (clicked pre-fader, kept it at 0db), bussed that to a new stereo audio track armed to record, and let the scenes play out one sound at a time.

kind of long-winded route, but the alternative afaik is using the kontakt-esque multi-outs, and tbh i'm really not sure how that shit behaves sometimes, esp with multiple sound groups in action. I keep losing track of whats going out of where and i end up with like snares or percussion tracking along with my hi hats... fucks me off proper

The slicer actually works fine for me, although I honestly don't use it that much, I've never found a practical use for it. So maybe if I did use it I would have trouble with it idk. And yeah, im familiar with the loop function in the edit screen, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, seems to depend on the length of the note. Maybe I don't understand how it works, but it will show the tempo that I originally sampled the loop at, which is usually correct, but when I try to change the tempo of that loop to sync properly with the song, it doesn't change it at all. Not that big of a deal though, I mostly just use it for drums and chopping things up (did it with some vocals on the latest song im working on)

You, finally really starting to dig into maschine. I give this thing a good year of learning, by which point ni will have Maschine 2.0 out, and my knowledge will be obsolete. Yeah!

So dealing with Maschine's cryptic automation/midi cc system. If anyone has cracked this nut, like automating vsti's with external midi gear or even really how to assign group macros to vsti controls and link those group macros to external cc's I'd appreciate it. I'd really like a Maschine aim buddy to swap information/learning, if anyone is up for it. This thing is a BEAST.
