I'm prolly one of five in Chicago that has stayed with the two-step/UK Garage/Bassline House sound... and believe me, it's hard being this kool!

read what i said! basically ALL music we hear IS 4/4. but i'm talking about 4/4 as the NAME of a type of music, not a description of its rhythm. speed garage was called speed garage.Shonky wrote:Not sure about that one tbh. Speed garage came before 2 step and that was 4/4. Sorta reverted back to 4/4 after 2 step. Wasn't known as 4/4 at the time but the blueprint was there (bit like El-B being dubstep before the term was coined). Ripgroove and Gunman were shitloads better than a lot of the new stuff though.Delendi wrote:yessssssss bassline house. except none of the northerners i know call it that. they call it 2 step. where did us southerners go wrong? their scene sounds good and is thriving. ours sounds crap and isn't very big.
i don't think you could mistake 4/4 for funky house... even funky house sounds better than 4/4... and i am nooooot a fan of funky.
and yeh 2 step came from 4/4 in so much as 99.99% of non-classical music is 4/4. but in terms of '4/4' as a genre (with the stupidist name of all time) 2 step came first.
The 4/4 refers to the four kicks to the bar over four bar patterns (as far as I can gather - I've never seen an explanation tbh) as opposed to the time signature - in that way I think that essentially speed garage is pretty much indistinguishable from the modern 4/4 garage apart from the fact the newer stuff is faster (and IMO not as good). Same heavy bass, same house kicks, maybe slightly more organs, same sorta vocals bit faster but quite similar I think you'll agree.Delendi wrote:read what i said! basically ALL music we hear IS 4/4. but i'm talking about 4/4 as the NAME of a type of music, not a description of its rhythm. speed garage was called speed garage.Shonky wrote:Not sure about that one tbh. Yeah, but I was talking about 4/4 as music rather than as time signature - it's the kick hitting on every beat. It is a fucking stupid term. Bit like drum and bass cause of course no other music features drums and bass at all. Country and western might as well be drum and bassobIwan wrote:4/4 time signature allow for four beats to be in the bar tho, no?
