People got RATM to xmas number 1 so i cant see why we all cant find one amazing tune which most people on dsf love and get that to number 1, give more of an education to the majority of people about the genre.

Being a card carrying member of the old fart brigade who was around to see techno break, house break, hip hop break, drum and bass break, etc, I can say with certainty that there is a ~5-10 year cycle or so from the point where the music you love is completely underground to when commercial artists start borrowing elements from the sound. Its only a matter of time before chart toppers are written with your favorite music style's influence all over it.

I can remember when drum and bass was literally underground. No one was a "junglist" as they had all come from something else, and no one else was doing anything like it. A few years later, every single hip hop track had funky drummer or winstons breaks style drums and samples from old soul funk and disco tracks over the top of that, with some dude rapping on it. It became a formula for the next 6 or 7 years.

Dubstep itself is an amalgimation of alot of other styles of music, so it doesnt surprise me that 7 or 8 years after it broke there are commercial artists whose albumes are rife with elements of that sound.

lots of good points and you're probably right. but just to be a pain in the arse, what do you mean by soul & funk breaks sampling in hip hop? that's like the age old classic hip hop formula, nothing to do with jungle/dnb i think

jungle/dnb took sampling those breaks to new levels. chooping them speeding them pitching them. jungle especially. sampling is a staple in dnb/jungle for sure.

Feeling the immense tone of dread in this track.

Just sounds like some 90's pop-trance tune with occasional KICK-GAP-SNARE halftime drums in. First time I've heard it, not the worst track ever, but another track that makes me less and less bothered about the charts.

Good music will always find its way to me anyway.
