She never did entertain me, nor did I ever pity her much during her time on Earth. I get it, drug addictions and whatever and I have NO idea what it is like to have one but I mean surely she has been handed many opportunities to get her shit together?
It's tragic, she died young but I'm not going to feign sympathy for someone whose music I paid no attention to, nor cared for much as an individual because I failed to connect with her on any level through her music or media exposure.

So your not even sympathetic to the fact that she was a human like the rest of us?

I did say it was tragic, she died incredibly young. My sympathy lies in the fact that she clearly had more of a life to live and it's a shame it has been taken from her.
However, I struggle to place sympathy on anyone who doesn't attempt to get themselves out of their shitty situation. Life should be taken for granted and not abused, we all make mistakes and all that chat but I mean surely someone should have stepped in and helped her. It's not as if her drugs problems were a private matter... shit, I would have expected her parents (isn't it her dad who she was closest to or something) to have stepped in.
I probably did come off as a bit cold, we are all humans but those who waste life I have no pity for, I'm afraid.

Yea, I Agree. People saying others deserve to die for their drug use is pretty hypocritical in most people, considering the amount of legal substances people abuse on a daily basis. Caffiene anyone?

A bit of an invalid comparison mate, I'm quietly confident crack cocaine is more devastating to the body than caffeine.
I hate coffee anyway

addiction is a little more complex than most people presume.

Fair enough man, you did come across as a little cold but I see your point.

i feel sorry in the fact that she prolly had more yes men benefiting from her abusing drugs and benefiting from it be it publicists, media etc that led to her ignoring the ones who truly cared about her like her family
fame is a bitch and often makes people ignore those who have the best interests in mind
addiction is more complex than peoplewould like to believe especially when you have a supply of money and enablers behind it
like i said even the media coverage foreshadowed this, shame those who cared couldn't get to her sooner

@say_whut
as i said before, it's okay that you think all of this, but where is the need to spew all of your condemnation in a dedicated thread to her?
excuse my reductio ad absurdum: would you go to a funeral and say:
"I don't really care about that bitch haha... it's tragic sure... but it's her own fault." - - "What're you doing here then bruuv?!"

I see another dispute of butt jolokia status.
She was a crack/heroine addict, she was dropped, not much she could do about not releasing. It got to the point that her dad begged fans to stop buying her records, so logically, no mainstream label would put up with her...
I'm sure if she had wanted to release more music she would have. Just because she got dropped doesn't mean she can't release anything.
If you ever find an organized crack addict, contact me ASAP.

I guess I was making a bit more of a universal post and not so much about Winehouse as an individual, but I agree with deadly habit's sentiments above - its a great shame that she simply didn't get the help she needed in time.
@maxism I am not condemning her, I acknowledge that's what it came across as being but I sympathise on a human level - she died incredibly young. Fuck would I do that at a funeral for anyway? I never even said I straight up hated her, (AGAIN) I lack sympathy for those who don't seem to actively help themselves out of a shit situation. In the context of Winehouse, things are likely to be different what with the intense media exposure and her management, so back to my original point - it's tragic.

Fuck you, and I'm not even a fan of Amy Winehouse. Would you say that about Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain or Jim Morrison? Who's to say what they went through in terms of addiction isn't exactly what Amy Winehouse went though - so now we're blaming the person and not the circumstances that led to her taking those substances? What the fuck is this? She's not some poor little rich girl like Peaches Geldoff getting lively with the nose candy, she's coming from a working-class background and doing what a lot of her peer group and class as a whole are doing. She is like a lot of this country and she had the added pressure of fame on her, it broke her what can you say?
If I went from this
To being some fucking celebrity puppet for that dickhead Mark Ronson it might break me too.
Bands break apart all the time, why is it so hard to imagine it could happen to a person? R.I.P Amy WInehouse.

And AntlionUK the fact you treat human life with such little value shocks me. Just because someone doesn't release much music doesn't mean their life is any less meaningful to their fans, or most importantly the people who cared about them on a personal level. You seem to forget that music is made by people, with lives, friends and families...

They're both separate, and they're both important in their own ways, to a lot of people.
One doesnt negate the other and setting them up against each other is a pretty pointless route of thought to take.
How else can you expect the general public to react when celebrity life gains more public interest than other world affairs? It's more a reflection on the media than the people tbh
for those that argue that people should be paying more attention to the Oslo deaths, i wonder how much they were actually genuinely effected and whether Winehouse taking the lime-light has influenced their need to call in on the moral high grounds to further elevate and increase the self worth and value of their own status on things?
Global compassion > discriminative/conditional compassion
oh and ;
people get annoyed when people suddenly see everyone hype over someone who's just died. the anti-hype bandwagon is still a bandwagon by the way . Everyone's got problems,but not everyone can put it to good use and creatively express it though. she actually could. you don't have to like her or her music but at least respect the fact she could reach out to a lot of people. Just cos someones labeled famous, doesnt mean its 'fair' to chat shit about them just to help justify and elevate your own status on it. Addiction is a million times more complicated than the newspapers paint it out to be
well said.

yessir.
"16 Half of the wood he burns in the fire;
over it he prepares his meal,
he roasts his meat and eats his fill.
He also warms himself and says,
"Ah! I am warm; I see the fire."
17 From the rest he makes a god, his idol;
he bows down to it and worships.
He prays to it and says,
"Save me! You are my god!" (Isaiah 44:16-17)
basically you can take anything that was given to you for good and turn it around and make it a bad thing. a lot of people have addictions they don't even acknowledge because it's not a drug addiction. porn, fast food, shopping, self-image, relationships. drugs simply make it worse because you become not only mentally attached, but physically dependent. so ragging on someone just for being an addict is jacked up not only because you're not in their shoes, but because everyone has an addiction. and if you say you don't, you're in denial buddy.
