Yeah, it sounds like the driver is being pushed harder than it has the capability of dealing with... or the amp is running out of steam. Used to see kids suffering from this all the time in their cars and then wondering why their subs kept blowing up... perhaps because you bought 4 "1000watts MAX!!!!" subwoofers and tried to drive them off your radio/cassette.
Amp is by far the most important part of a decent setup... don't scrimp, Ninjas.

well i would say a hipster is someone who doesnt listen to popular stuff, cos they are too cool for that, but on the underground scene they would listen to something that is quite popular. its like the thing of they would try so hard to listen to music that no one else listens to, just so that they are cool cos they dont conform. but really all hipsters like it, so it is quite popular. they probably fuckin love dubstep!

if you drive a sub too hard it will naturally clip as the cone moves.
or am I just talking out of my darkness?
I don't heard any distorting to be honest.. but yes i'd say the knocking is the result of the sub being pushed too hard. They are computer speakers primarily so the 'amp' is all built in I suppose? I'd say they're some of the better speakers if you're not looking to spend lots of money on some actual proper equipment

It's possible haha, are you looking at the master fader tho? I don't output through the master. I'm using a DJM600 as well which doesn't have orange lights so the first few bars of red are still safe I've been told

Apart from not being able to hear anything that anyone has said in the thread, i would recommend this setup. I played my Swamp81 cassettes on it until they snapped.

any thoughts on these as speakers just for listening on?
head into surplustronics on queen st and have listen to em, as i know they stock them... or if they dont have any in stock, then have a listen to one of the millions of speaker setups they do have available

What is with people buying hundreds of pounds worth of speakers off the Internet based on other people's recommendations without listening to them? It's like getting a guitar mailorder without touching the fretboard... madness.

Ok and maybe they don't use cheap pioneer equipment on his particular 'HQ Stage'? Like I said... there are no orange lights.. it goes like 8 bars of green then 6 bars of red or something... care to actually confirm or refute?

Question for you guys... Would some cheap-o hi-fi setup something like these be better for listening to music (in this case dubstep, because I'm interested mainly in improved bass) through my computer (and pikey turntable) than the 2.1 Logitech system I've got now.
I just picked 3 things that were roughly in the price range I was thinking. I mean, I know in general the sound would be 'better', but yknow, would I get as much bass? I'd still like to be able to shake the room a bit.

I don't think you'll get much sub-bass out of a subwoofer that cheap, you're looking at like 4x that price minimum...
EDIT: just checked the specs, 40hz is a pretty terrible cut-off

That lot will probably be masssively better than anything Logitech make, but there's no point in ordering a complicated setup like that online... go into a Richer Sounds and have a play around. Take your favourite CD, talk to them, get them to let you try a few things out.
Encouraging words on the internet are no substitute for soundwaves hitting your ear drums.
Not all hifi shops are like this:

I was being dead serious about the samsung tallboy 5.1 surround.
It has great sound with an excellent sub bass.
I used to use it to listen to music all the time.
Then I sold it.
