Ironically this is the sort of thing that makes it less special.
Also I doubt I will be surprised by who the nominees are, maybe you would be better off posting on this forum instead http://forum.ukfmusic.com/

Can we have a stipulation that you have to have attended at least one dubstep night and have heard of Tunnidge before you can vote?

Yout-tubesteppers need to be avoided.

Hi guys!

Again, thank you for your feedback and comments.

We shall try and answer you as quickly as possible! - Apologies about the delays in our responses.

Further information on the awards and categories etc is due to be released shortly. We will be posting the information on here, the website and other avenues.

The voting will be open and fair, rather than have nominees for awards, it's down to YOU guys and girls to vote/name your favourite artists etc! - We feel this gives everyone a fair chance of winning!

Thanks again everyone! The feedback is really appreciated.

The DMA Team

We already have the forums awards and they carry so much weight it'll be pointless to do this unless you had something worth-while to give the winners.

I ain't knocking what you're doing but Birmingham is hardly the Mecca of Dubstep...I ain't going to travel up there for a sweat-boxed rave where some people get a 10 quid throphy even though i'll be paying stupid prices (no doubt)

Meh, to be honest there are no official awards for Dubstep, but it's just a touchy topic, so do what you want, but, by doing this, you'll get people creating email addresses to revote for people they already voted for and, if you take it just by numbers, of course the tear out stuff is much more popular with the normal people in the world and the minority are into the deep stuff.

Surely, if you allow the public to vote whatever they want, deep well known artists / deep up and comping artists will get pushed aside by all the commercial guys - same goes with the deep labels / new labels.

People talking about awards and glorification - blah blah - need to jam. Awards and what not are exciting and they also publicize the ten people nominated and if they had a serious problem with it, then surely the DSF ones are shit too eh?

Personally I dont see it working very well. As a previous poll stated the majority of facebook dubsteppers are under 18. This means that the majority of people voting will be under 18. It is likely that the majority of these people will go for the harder, Rottun, Circus style stuff. You will then end up with a line-up of acts that relates to these winners (im guessing you will be getting the winners to attend) however the people that have voted for them will be unable to attend.

Fuck OFF does it.

All it'll take is for one producer on say Circus or Rottun to go to their social networking media and say "vote for me here" to have your voting system rendered pointless; and have it swarmed by hundreds of kids who don't know any better and think its fun to make multiple account to spam said producers to the top of the voting chart.

That style of "vote" doesn't let the true talent through and I can guarantee that if you pursue this in that way, you'll have a lot of people involved in the core community just turn their backs on your awards if they were even willing to be a part of it in the first place.

Who is bankrolling these "awards" anyway? (my bad if that has already been cleared up)

The punters buying the tickets and the ''sponsors'' I believe!

From what i've read about the DNB we could have such dubstep affiliated sponsors such as KFC and Ryanair.

All I see is this being another way of trying to glamourise and commercialism a scene that has neither asked or needs to be. These awards are completely meaningless, prove nothing and will never and can never represent the entire dubstep scene fairly.

It's just a load of over-hyped, arse-kissing, ego-stroking bullshit in my opinion.

EDIT: Also, I'm guessing the format will be pretty similar to the Drum & Bass Awards. If we say that it is and you're holding it at the custard factory, I reckon that place has a capacity of 2000 people, tickets for the DNB awards this year where £35 x2000 = £70,000 on ticket sales alone, then you add in your corporate sponsorship (this years DnB awards being sponsored by British Midland & Subway) and the fact that this has come about right when dubstep has started getting national attention in TV adverts and on Radio 1, and not 7 or 8 years ago, when it was just starting out as a small scene in London, and all of this starts to smack of cashing in. So you cans see why, I at least, find it very very hard to take this sort of thing seriously and why I think it is actually quite damaging.

Thats my 2ps worth anyway.
THIS.
Well said Dutty :Q:
