yeah OSC. I've been using mlrv a lot in the past but it doesn't quite do it for me - i've got a laundry list of things i'd like to add - but i find that it's a real pain to go through all the subpatches and figure out where everything is, then it is to just learn how to make my own.

Dubstep for 7 months, music production for 4 or 5 years, I just never focused on any particular style before like I did with dubstep this time. I learned about the style, incorporated it into my own style, then made the album in 7 months, although I am still working on it.

Fine, something not everyone does... I've been making bass with cut up vocal samples. So sorry if I'm too boring for you.
you're fine man. everyone has their own path. I'll say something tho. no matter how down you get, don't do anything drastic. a friend of mine took his own life - even if you think no one cares about you, you'd be VERY surprised.

that being said, collective - what this guy is doing is interesting to HIM - he's more than worthy to contribute to this thread. i don't know you, but chill out man.
listen i am trying to keep the thread onto some higher level discussion or at least if not that some interesting approaches to things. I specified that in the first post. I am not trying be a dick but come on.

the life of the often infinite lost patcher. I am terrible, but why re-invent the wheel I guess.

its a heaven/hell sort of deal. I am sure you understand.

Sorry man, I just don't like the way you shut some people down in this thread saying, what they're doing isn't interesting. If its interesting to them, then it's interesting, and thats all what matters.

I know were you coming from, and I have an idea what your looking... but I don't think the people who are doing stuff that isn't the same old shit, are going to post about what there doing on a public forum, their going to keep that shit on the lock down till it's ready to unleash. All the stuff in this thread that you said you wanted more of, has all been done for years, build electronics, field recording, using tape, ect. obviously there are new takes on it, but like I said people doing something different ain't going to everyone wht they're doing.

I am not saying it shouldn't be interesting, but it seems pretty obvious you dont come into a thread with people talking about tape loops and building fm synths and talking about a mix you made, something that doesn't really contribute to the topic.

I am not dictating whats interesting, just looking for some more unique discussion. maybe i should change the thread title.

Really digging this tune man. I really like the lead playing most of the melody with the unstable pitch. Sounds nice an analogue. Really nice work there!

Back on topic, I dug an old tape recorder and like 30 blank tapes out of my parent's old equipment box. I'd really like to play around with them (I hear it gives sound a naturally warm and analogue-y sound), but I have absolutely no experience working with tapes. Obviously I couldn't get the tapes right onto my computer, so what hardware do I need to be able to get the tape's audio onto my computer, and how much does it cost?

I think the approach most commonly used is to record a section of audio ( drum loop ) on to the tape. Then play the tape version back and record it as a stereo signal into the DAW. Set a click at the start of your loop so you can line it up with ease when its played back. All you need is your soundcard with ins and outs and some RCA to 1/4" turn arounds most likely. Try a higher level of volume than your original track when you send it to tape. When its back blend the two and maybe compress, effect ..etc

Before you go, uh, those samples? Been waiting for a time. :)

And listen Collective, you know where I'm at, and I know you are a major gear whore, if you see some legit tape based recording device pop up, alert me. Straight up not asking for a favor. I know you love gear and you can't stop yourself. I've just got to get tape rolling again. Have this old f'ed up vcr wired up into my patch bay, and it actually does sound good imo, but I've got technical problems with it, and I'm just sick of dealing with it.
