I don't consider "African" a race, there are Egyptians, South Africans etc... if she said "With so many blacks in Greece" then it would be different, just seems like a lame joke to me...
lmfao are you actually serious?

you don't get how that joke is dehumanising and implicitly negative about the presence of african people in greece? you think that because there are different shades of people and different nation states in africa, no comment that uses the word "african" can be racist.

christ some people on here are dumb.
I think anyone getting that offended by it is just hypersensitive. After I looked into it and realized her stance on the whole immigration thing, I see why people are upset. But, I still wouldn't call it racist.

baseball, at least in cricket you can score some runs. The most runs scored in a game of baseball by one team is 36.

I watch both but baseball is slow!

I think Baseball is possibly the duller game, but the crowds look more lively than cricket crowds.

I love a day at the cricket though... always end up a wonderful type of drunk.

In single style-on-style combat BJJ has proven its mettle time and time again, for MMA Jits alone aint enough, even multiple time BJJ world champions like Roger Gracie or Marcelo Garcia have to train in at least rudimentary striking before thinking about going into MMA.

In genuine altercations outside of sports BJJ is insanely effective (provided you arent outnumbered) as unless you are trained in it you simply have no idea how to counter it, everyone knows how to throw a punch but not many people know how to correctly counter a leglock without risking serious injury

the"hypersensitive" thing is just a bullshit excuse made by ignorant people who think that just because they have no problem with how racist they are, no one else should either.

but if you really want to argue that joke isn't racist, you're gonna have to come up with a better reason than "she said african and not black". really.

if i took a trip to Egypt and some tour guide or something was like "watch out for mosquitos, some carry the west nile virus" and i said something like, "oh we have those in america too, i guess they eat their homemade food here though!!!" it'd be like a really lame joke and not funny, but i don't think it'd be racist...

but if you said with all the blacks in greece blah blah blah then that is assuming all black people are african = racist

^ this. Bigots often use things like saying 'people are being hypersensitive' or that it's 'political correctness gone mad' to cover up (or make themselves feel better about) their own ignorance. I'm not for a second saying that you're a bigot or anything, I don't know you so I wouldn't know, but I think it's dangerous to suggest things like that, especially when you're not aware of the context.

I also don't think it's the place of white people to suggest others are being hypersensitive when it comes to racism. Seeing as it's nearly impossible to properly empathise, how are we to know if anyone is being hypersensitive? As someone who is half chinese and has had to deal with a fair amount of racism in my time, I would still include myself in that, as I know racism hasn't really affected my opportunities in anywhere near the same way as it does others (again, no idea what race you are so this is more of a general point than one specifically aimed at you rayman).

Also, I'm not sure how you can say you've read her stance on immigration and still not find it racist? It's not always about what exactly is said, but the intentions and underlying feeling behind it. And in this case, even if the joke itself isn't racist (I think it is, but that's besides the point), once you add the context, I find it hard to see how anyone can't see that it was clearly offensive.

In other news, pretty excited about the Olympics. Gonna force everyone to sit through the opening ceremony before while Pre drinking for Corsica tomorrow, then off to the Boxing on Sunday! :corndance:

Has it been announced who will light the torch yet? I have a bet with my brother that it'll be Steve Redgrave.

well, is nativism a different form of irrational hatred, or a respectable policy?
