Phigure wrote:the thing is, i think there's a difference between the type of trap being made by guys like flosstradamus, baauer, etc and the original trap by the likes of lex luger, drumma boy, etc

one is trying to be EDM, the other is hiphop - they appeal to different tastes

i'm with you though on the cheese
ehhh but if you really break it down its really just the hyped up vs hard sound. Its not like it used to be where hip hop was produced with X and EDM was produced with Y. Same programs, same samples, same filters, whatever. Take your favorite trap tune, take the synth down a key you have a southern hip hop tune.

It seems like there are some producers taking this style and applying it to less hype tracks and laying down smidgens of chin-stroking introspection. That's the stuff I dig.

Example:

also shit like Evian Christ gets me offffff

rustie and eprom made some really interesting stuff that started this trend i think. now all this shit is like 3 note melodies and 808s that are so disjointed you cant dance to them.

It's just. Hip-hop. Club beats.

Some of it is good, most of it sucks. This shit's been on the radio since I was fucking 12 years old and probably before that. It's not revolutionary or exciting and the sounds haven't been fresh since hip-hop producers started buying sample CDs or using FL stock samples.

What's the funniest about this, by far, though. Is that all these backpackers and indie rockers were HATING on this type of shit while biggin' up Madlib and Mos Def, thinking it's on some plebeian uncultured shit. But watch them eat this shit up like ecstasy at a warehouse party when that shit gets released by white dudes on a hipster label like Warp.

lol this.

It's funny to think how I saw Eprom in 2011 (and it was AWESOME btw) and now a year later it feels like it was oldskool trap show. :cornlol:

newskool trap is fucking awful.

Soon your going to see people saying, yeaa im a real trap head i was listening to it before it came popular look at me im epic. Personally im really hoping it does take away the bro loving people and that means that sound will die out then maybe the bros will leave this forum and it will return to just good threads (there is still good threads around but wouldn't it just be nice to have the forum like it was before just music lovers here for the music.
