actually i try to do triplet hats but i doesnt really sound well.blinkesko wrote:You mean the swoosh leading into the snare?
Make a reverb tail of a clap or something, reverse and timestretch to taste.
The snare roll is actually the hihats. Make triplet hihat patterns with different velocities on some of the hits.
Mess with the velocities and when they hit, just mess around reallySubkontra wrote:actually i try to do triplet hats but i doesnt really sound well.blinkesko wrote:You mean the swoosh leading into the snare?

Sounds pretty simple to me dude.Thekid54 wrote:I've been trying to get something similar to what Datsik used in his U don't like me remix. I use FM8 and Massive. Anyone have an idea on how to get this sound?
The sound I'm talking about starts at the beginning of the song.
What synths have you attempted to make it in? What techniques have you already tried?dotcurrency wrote:I've read every post in the reese bass thread, searched far and wide but I simply CANNOT produce the KOAN sound/Culprate synth...
Sound at 1.17, and even more prominent at 1.54
God, I love that grainy reesey sound so much but I can't seem to get anywhere close to it.
Culprate uses it too

Edit: I've been doing a lot of reese work lately, made this in the past 15 mins after listening to that KOAN track, obviously not syncopated and chopped amazingly but yeah, if you want any tips I'll be glad to share:

I've tried resampling through harmor with about 7-10 different kinds of reeses and harmor settings, filtered it with some flangers, still nothing close.
It's not that I'm trying to imitate that sound %100, but something fairly close would be more than enough. I'm thinking its because I'm not chopping them.
You seem damn good at making that kind of reese, please share your knowledge![]()
Also, how do you generally chop up reeses? (All my results tend to sound like shit)
Here's one I did a few minutes ago.
Soundcloud
My method:
>Take any reese, hell you could even use a fat electro style saw bass. Record a note (I used g#). This is what mine sounded like to start with, it's some really awul z3ta preset from a pack but it's got a lot of frequencies you can play with (Edit: just realised I bounced that note an octave too high - it really does sound terrible haha oh well).
Soundcloud
>Chuck it in harmor, slap on some unison and play with the pitch/phase settings to get it sounding "phasy" hehe. Play with the prism setting to make it sound "un-shit", I literally turn the knob till it sounds okay. Make sure in the advanced tab you have everything on high or best quality, no denoise. Add some distortion, maybe compress it in the mids and highs using "warming" or "burning". Record it. Atm it'll probably sound "wet" and a bit "empty".
>Chuck it into Kontakt, add a phaser as an insert (I tend to use either the default, airy or screaming preset), adjust feedback and wet/dry. Again it probably sounds really "empty".
>Now FX - the first one I posted had no freq splitting, the second I split around 400hz i.e. 0-400 on one channel and 400-20k on another. For both I applied some distortion from iZotope Trash (this is all about playing with settings, if you want start with the presets that sound really aggressive and just turn off the options and tone it down, you want a decent sound still and not just white noise) and then some compression.
>I also generated some midrange tape hiss (brown noise is good too) from Massive, added chorus in Massive. On the mixer channel I had some EQ to cut the high and low, you want the warm mids. Then some stereo seperation.
> Now add a sub, this wants to be playing the same pattern as your reese. Also EQ the sub and reese so they don't clash.
>Then I lazilly bussed the reese, sub and tape noise to another channel where I compressed them together. Also sent this to a tight reverb channel. The mid range noise from Massive shouldn't be very audible as in you shouldn't go "LOL WHYS THERE HISSING", on my examples you can kinda hear it but idgaf. The sub needs to be weighty, use more than a sine, I used a heavy saw with EQ shelved at like 200HZ.
>My theory behind this is that all the shit in Harmor and Kontakt gets rid of a lot of sound, but it makes a really cool sound too. So by replacing some mids and adding the low end back it you make the sound full again but cooler than it originally was.
As for chopping, I didn't do any, just made a stuttered pattern. Layered with a 100bpm drum loop and silly vocals and done.
I also had a pad in there, playing a chord but I don't think you can hear it tbh.
Overall it may sound like a lot of work and be complicated, but it's not. When it comes down to it it's mainly button pushing/knob turning until you make something cool, once you get into the flow you can just rinse and repeat, use different settings each time and make more cool stuff.
Edit 2: Also I like your reese, try cutting up some bits and running them through a chain like I suggested.
Oh and btw I granulised that reese I posted with silly settings:

Still not %100 how I want it, but thanks to you I have more of an understanding of how to get to where I want it to be.![]()
Following your tips, I produced this.
The second reese sounds like a distorted guitar more than a phasing reese.![]()

Yep, sampled them straight from the song. Got them pretty clear too.blinkesko wrote: Do I hear some of KOAN's snares in there too?
God your reeses are beautiful

Can anyone help me make this sexy reese?
Sounds like saws detuned with comb filter and a little phaser and flanger, but I wanna know how to get that nice crunch in the top end.
Maybe exciter filter?
Sounds like its just basic massive and camelphat but It's hard for me to make it right on point.
Help would be much appreciated."]

Hahah, let me have those vocal samples
Also, how do you get that swooshing sound in the background? I know its like, reversed snare or something so it sounds like it sucks in, but when I do it, I get a kind of "clipping" noise at the end of the sample. (No matter what sample I use)
oooh i'd love to mess about with it. could you pm me the ksd or nmsv? It would be MUCHMUCHMUCH APPRECIATED.mthrfnk wrote:SoundcloudPatrickReza wrote:Soundcloud

I tried making a crisp reese, anything you like about it?
