What does it matter if no one else likes their music though? As long as
they like it, that's all that really matters.
Unless you go out of your way to produce for other people for some reason.
I think out of the people doing it 20 hours a week, the ones doing it for themselves are outliers.
Based on what evidence? Don't people only do things for themselves?

No you didn't.
Yes I did dude, I have a chronic fucking knee injury lol. Of course I could be but I'd be a fucking horrible one. As long as I was enjoying myself, sure. But if I for some reason decided to quit my job and go skating full time I think I'd appreciate someone to tell me that 'bro, you sure this is a good idea?'. That's what I took from his post anyway.
Anyway, I think some of you are getting him the wrong way. He's not trying to convince anyone to stop producing even though they're having fun, the way I interpreted it was as though he sees a lot of people putting in a lot of effort thinking they're going to be the next big thing in dubstep and giving up stuff etc, thinking that this is a viable career choice. As long as they're enjoying themselves of course they shouldn't stop, but I think there are a lot of kids who think they're going to do this as a career while the truth is that it's probably too late to have dubstep as a career now, if you start now it'll be all over by the time you've picked it up (probably). People who are in it for all the wrong reasons.
I think some of you guys are maybe reading a bit too much into this, I dont think he's goign to force anyone to stop producing because they're bad. I dunno. Maybe I'm wrong, sorry if I offended anyone.
Although reading his last few posts I'm pretty sure he's trolling. Dubstep addicts, wtf. You guys win, I lose. fuck. Sorry friends

Then the analogy fails. He's saying people should give up because he doesn't like their current creative output, not because they suffer a disability. Yes, if they lost their hearing they might be wise to consider visual art or software engineering...

Not necessarily, not all people are cut out to be producers. It takes a good ear, musical training, rhythm, creativity, concentration, motivation, a strong psyche etc. As with everything there are certain qualities that are going to help. Anyway, that's a little bit besides the point.
Just because some don't like your stuff you shouldn't stop of course, that's not what I'm saying. But I think you should have realistic expectations on your producing and where it's going to take you and I think that's what the OP was getting at. The harsh truth is that 99% of all the people on here aren't going to make a nickel on their production, probably myself included. And that's fine, I do it for me and whoever can take any joy out of my music. But that's not true for all people on here, and maybe they need someone to tell them that this might not work out for you. That's how I understood it at least, not "you suck and you should stop making music", more like "You will probably not be as successful as the big names and you might need to accept that before you can go anywhere". I don't think he wanted to force anyone out of production, obviously that's pretty retarded. But hey, I've seen weirder shit on the internet.
Edit: Okay, it's evident from a couple of op's post that I don't agree with him on a lot of stuff. My main point still stands though.

You can develop all of those things.

Yeah that wasn't at all the point of my post though. But all necessary skills to be good at anything can be developed, the same can be applied to any sport or whatever. It still helps if you have some with you from growing up etc.
Anyway, like I said, that doesn't have anything to do with my point so nevermind that. My point is that some people have unrealistic expectations and maybe the OP is right in his concern about that. It's not about forcing people away from production, just to let them know what they can expect. I'm sure there are a shitload of kids who are just in it for the bitches, and if so obviously it's a huge waste of energy because there aren't that many to be found, unless you start bringing in the dough. And you won't. Probably.

op, you have a really bad attitude (and your tunes are pretty good, but only better than about half the regs here)... and people like you are the reason people like me tell newbies: FUCK THE HATERS.
do what you love and fuck everyone else. if you're producing for any reason other than loving music (status)- you're doing it wrong.
who fucking cares if someone doesn't have what it takes to be a pro producer. that's like telling me not to bother drawing a picture because i'll never be as good as professional artists... i'll do what i like, thanks.

I think that with the right teaching, and enough effort, anyone can make good music.

Are you talking from personal experience here, or just making assumptions based on very little knowledge of what people actually get up to in their 'real lives'?
Why the hell do you even care anyway?
I think you're letting this get in the way of your real life.
I've made 16 posts and spent about 3 hours on this website. Plenty of people post about how many hours they spend a week. I can't say exactly why I care. Maybe it's because I hate being a bystander. Maybe I don't like seeing people hurting themselves. I had to say something. No one else had mentioned it as far as I know.
obvious troll is obvious. next question

I read the op yesterday and will be honest i think he's just trolling. If not i think you are pretty much a cheeky tnuc.People have to learn and teaching yourself what is pretty much an art form wrapped in a mystery is no small challenge even for the most creative people.
I could probably listen to what the op has posted and tear it to bits just for the fact he is being a bit of a twat but i am not that way inclined.Bashing people who are in the throes of learning a craft and pointing out how much their inability to be further along than they are is just simply a cuntish thing to do.
I hope you are trolling op,if not you sir are a proper bellend.

if he can dish it he can take it.
OP your song is pure wank. Its the most generic sound, with no soul. Percussion is weak, beats are terrible and the synth dubstep bit you pull near the end honestly makes me think you know nothing about production. Look in the mirror next time

Spending a lot of time on something you like to do is a good thing in my humble opinion.
Some good musical stuff WILL happen if you train enough. 20h/week is a good rythm, and perfectly compatible with a job, a social life, and even a love life.
Some pro-skater $$$-making trained for 3 years before landing their first kickflip. Some can land almost every flip-tricks , in switch stance over few stares, and not getting any profit from skateboarding.
Not all the good stuffs are bankable. And it's not really the point of all of this.
Maybe you should spend more time on your production (which can go MUCH further), instead of feeling bad and stuff for peoples on forum. Don't worry too much about them.
