What the fuck.
F*ckin Beat NYE 2013 was a joke. Thank God it was cheap (only spent like 60€ on the night)

Absolutely cracking venue, an old abandoned Cinema/opera complex in decay but with most of the modern facilities in place. But that's about where the good part ends.

1) arrive at venue by 11.20, still queuing up at midnight in the rain. Saw some fireworks though. 4000 people event and only TWO people at the entrance trading in vouchers for entrance bracelets. The queue to get in took up the whole street. Meanwhile, the front entrance to the venue wasn't even used...

2) Get into the complex at around 10 past midnight. Huge complex with all sorts of staircases, basements and hidden rooms with no indications or guidelines at all. Finally found drink coupons-stand stashed away in some dark room on the top floor at half past 12.

3) Find out the cloakroom is inside the main hall where all staircases and entrances converge. At exactly this point was the cloakroom. Not surprisingly an incredible bottleneck formed, with no chance to get rid of the coat with hundreds of people queuing up again. Seeing that it was an old and slightly decayed building, some of the rooms weren't that hot (rain was even leaking in in the attic room). So that wasn't a complete nuisance for me. For the gurners it was a disaster though. Apparently when the lights went on at the end of the night, there was a 2,5 hour wait to get your stuff back from the cloakroom LOL. And a lot of shit got stolen and in the end, the employees were just handing out random clothes to people.

4) Audio, their only real headliner outside of Dirtyphonics, who were crap, didn't even show up.

5) the Toilets were almost inaccessible. People just urinated wherever they found room

6) All of the above was not helped by the fact that this was 3000 person max venue and at least 4000 people were inside. Surprise there were no real incidents that I'm aware of involving trampling or crushing at some of the bottlenecks.

But I had fun though, was totally toasted, and beer was pretty easy to get a hold of. Heard some half decent hardtek, heard a bro/tear-out oriented set by Dirtyphonics whom I don't rate any way, but was mainly missing the promised breakcore. Not nearly enough amens in there. Didn't even get to the dub/reggae/turntablism stage because of the overcrowding.
Not going back next year. If there were a 1000 people less and the organisation wasn't spread so thin, it could have been very cool though, great location. But no organisation.

Haha, more and more stories are popping up about the party I was on about. Completely oblivious to all of this btw, so didn't bother me:

- Apparently the cloakroom was run by some 18 year olds. They couldn't handle it anymore and 2/3's of the staff simply left at 3 or so. The remaining staff couldn't prevent people from simply stashing their own stuff away/retrieving it when they left (or just stealing somebody's shit). There's around 50 posts or so on the wall already about people reporting stolen goods.

- Early on in the evening, part of the opera buildings ceiling came down because of the bass. Nobody was hurt. But when between 5.30 and 6am another piece came undone, the cops shut down the main room and the lights went on and all emergency exits were opened. I vaguely noticed this as I left the building through an emergency exit with quite a few policemen around.

- One guy fell of a makeshift elevated podium and broke his arm. Twas quite a big plunge.

- To encourage people to leave early, access to the toilets was blocked starting from around 5am.

Fucking amateur hour. In the ten years or so that I've gone to some NYE thing, be it large scale or local, I've never experienced anything like it lol. Then again entrance fee of 15€ should explain a lot.

I took the shrooms I had at 2am when I was blind drunk thinking I was sober enough and it wasn't too late (well mainly it was cause the rest of my mates wanted them).

man I became such an incoherent mess. It was very funny though. kept making the weirdest jokes and stayed awake so long.
