Just seems a bit precious really. I understand the original statement, it's not belittling all decent dance music. Using the phrase "intelligently stimulating" over and over wasn't helping anything.

Because you might not think the fact there is
more intellectually stimulating material out there is necessarily a bad thing? Maybe I missed something more controversial

Sandwell District have virtually no internet presence..
Or did the subject secretly change to what type of music is more intelligently stimulating?
Coz there was someone saying dance music does this less compared to every other type of music combined, that's obviously true.

he made an insulting and ignorant blanket statement about how any non-dance music is more intellectual than dance music

Was that the bit that ended with you saying a) you had proven him wrong and b) the whole thing is subjective? Yeah I liked that bit.
I didn't think/see it was "any' non-dance music.

You've got to be kidding me if you think there's more intelligently stimulating dance music than non-dance music.

Contrary to the futile hope of Internet-folk, having a forum account doesn't do much to make you famous.
Getting your tunes played by an influential DJ (e.g. Burial getting his tunes heard through Kode9) is a little more reliable.

yeah so if you wanna be anonymous you need to know people like kode 9?
just seems like quite a hard task to get your music to people, whilst at the beginning remaining anonymous

I think burial just sent the tunes to hyperdub, don't think they knew each other before that.....and I doubt kode9 does too much checking of forums or soundcloud to find artists to sign.

from what ive read on here it seems the only way nowadays to 'get big' is to get big djs, labels and sites bigging up your tracks through sending them. and thats not an easy task imo.
dont think having a forum account would hold you back from that attention though - og dubstep producers plus newer producers like objekt, deadboy, jacques greene, bashmore, the hessle crew have all benefited from this very forum at some early stage of their careers

that's pretty much always been the way though, apart from a few youtube hyped artists (or myspace or whatever else)

yeah, dya reckon every track that gets sent to those labels gets a listen?
i've never tried sending much to the labels direct, 1) cus i don't think my tunes are close to good enough & 2) cus i just don't believe they'd actually get listend too
