Drum recommendations?

Hey Wider Community,
..knowing full well that this must be among the weariest, most tedious procedural forum posts..
I'm such a duffus amateur that I've been using flat drum loops instead of individual drum hits ever since I started making "electronic music". I even spent money on sample libraries from SiliconBeats.com like a dense Garageband
nonce.
However, that ship has sailed and I hope the wise and thoroughly interesting members of the almighty
Dubstep Forum will step up and offer some sage advice on drum hit samples (or any links to useful articles etc).
Cheers forum. You're all looking great by the way, have you been working out?

Ever thought about making your own? It's not that hard and you can do it with just bout any synth. Or better yet bang something together with something else really loud and record it. You can get great drum sounds out if a cardboard box with a couple of sticks.

re: cutting up loops, I have tried!
Live 8 has a thing which automatically chops up audio based on transients and maps the hits across drum pads. Its having a high hat
mixed with the kick or
spill from the crash symbol
overshadowing the snare etc that I don't like. Obviously I should pick better drum loops, right? Well thanks, I shall persevere
Thank you!!
Thank you!!

wow! Thank you for these Blue Peter-style guerrilla drum solutions.
That's all very well for kicks, but to be honest, wouldn't we all rather
cook with the finest ingredients than have to fashion a rudimentary snare sound out of twigs, cat hair and sh*t?

Best sample packs for Dubstep?

What are the best sample packs that contain the heaviest snares/kicks for dubstep?
I am currently using - Vengeance Electroshock Vol.2 (VES2) for my Bassdrums & Snares. Any other good packs I should get?

I only use ones that are freeware. Once layered and processed they can sound just as good as commercial ones. Why are Vengeance packs so over used, are they that good or just overhyped?

VEC4, VED1 (and of course VES2) got a few fat mix-ready samples. Some might need a little polishing and simulated noise reverb to really shine. These packs will give you all you need if you're looking for fat electronic drum-sounds.
In case you wanna take it to the next level, making your own samples is really fun and once you get good at it you can tailor make drums for your tracks. It's actually surprisingly easy to get good results -- indeed you need to understand the basics of FM synthesis (it's not really FM exclusive though) and have a slightly practiced ear able to "deconstruct" sounds.

Those sound sick. I swear by Vengeance samples, 808s, 909s, and sometimes rip my own from metal tracks. The good thing about some of these sample packs is that they sound good without necessarily needing to layer them.
