the post about having to get to a specific part of the mix and rewind it if you want to listen again. Plus I always find myself reaching for some tunes to get that inspiration boost, the ones that have a tight mixdown, creative arrangement, interesting sounds that I can't exactly replicate.
I do listen to the mixes, but I also enjoy the rips and I don't think they are as harmful as some people advocate it to be. If I had the chance, I'd rather attend to a dance/night than having to listen to a 192kb youtube mix / rip (did that with skream but it was well shit

)

I'd wager to say 80-90% of people getting into any genre of underground music do so through youtube. Total newcomers aren't going to just blindly order (often ridiculously priced) vinyl records.

got no beef with youtube rippers in themselves (fight me bitchez) but trying to get bookings or any kind of recognition off the back of it is wack as fuck

lol yeah, i dare say it's simply absurd. big up to all the channels that posted all the unreleased Zomby tunes, though, that's good shit.

how much money could you possibly make from uploading an obscure dubstep tune to your youtube channel? i really doubt they're making off like bandits . i see this as exactly the same as the pirating debate. i agree it's a bit presumptiuous to think an artist wouldn't mind their tune being put out there, but some would argue it promotes the music to tons of people who would've never heard it before. it's all speculation really, because different artists feel differently about it . if i personally found one of my original tunes on youtube i honestly don't know how i would feel . probably a bit of both

If you can't create, rip and slyly pretend you had something to do with it's creation.

And the 'it's promotion for people I would never have heard of' is such a tired bullshit line. Where are the links to purchasing the track? Or just reposting the original upload (if there is one) from the label or artist? It's such transparent bs to get themselves attention.

If Burial was playing at a night that was started off the back of some youtube repost channel, I probably wouldn't go out of principle.
Regarding the 'it's promotion for people I would never have heard of', funny how loads of the videos I see on the big rip channels are the likes of Four Tet, Disclosure, Swamp 81 folks, some of the biggest names in the scene that need no help whatsoever.

there are definitely certain channels who tend to focus on the more hyped tunes for sure

it is pretty odd. I think they must do it for 'e-cred' or something. Same as people who upload tunes to filesharing sites. I mean, surely they must buy them, and then upload so others can have it for free and a load of faceless soulless e-pira-mongs can go 'heeey fanx man, real gr8 upload m8', which must give him or her a boner or something?
think it comes down to attention. They all want to have the best durbstep channel with the best durbz on.
mongs.
