Razor is one kick ass vocoder once you get through learning it, all the movement is from Razor itself, the external chorus is barely noticeable.

If anyone is interested in the geekier side (if that's possible?) of chiptune, found this blog whilst hunting for Megadrive samples;

http://little-scale.blogspot.fr/

Might be of interest.

Really interesting stuff.

Anyone been using Bazzism? It's so insane for kick synthesis or even just a low thump when necessary in your track.

Is a sharp drop in audio quality normal when using a vocoder or is it just the TAL one? o.O

Damn, more "black magic" and "vashikaran specialists"

Nice to hear it's even possible to be happy with your tunes. I'm struggling for the 4th year now. If I ever upload anything anywhere, it's probably after a decade.

I usually abandon my tracks somewhere halfway through. I don't even wanna know how many hundred project files I've had and how many I've actually finished.

why do you abandon them

because the ideas arent good

or you dont know how to finish them

Because I start to hate them :)

Something that sounded good 2hrs ago doesn't sound good anymore.

3hrs later...

This other thing doesn't sound good either.

And so on..

could try finishing your tunes quicker

to stop you getting bored with the sounds themselves

then every now and again have a dedicated session where you do nothing but sound design

so youre improving speed of work

and building a library of good sounds to work with

Technology allows the musician to listen and relisten time and time again to the same material, which presents a uniquely active opportunity. Here the aural awareness becomes highly focused until an extreme discrimination may be reached.
Quote from the book "The Digital Musician".

Basically in my own words, technology is blowing you off, while simultaneously fucking you in the arse.

You need to sort your workflow out, and realign your chakras. Basically what Soronery said.

Thanks for advice guys, I think I get obsessed to things a bit. Maybe I shouldn't listen to any music for a month or something too, so I wouldn't remember how a good sounding track (by my standards) sounds like...

i wouldnt agree with that at all

listening to music is a daily thing for me in one form or another

it gives me ideas

and i enjoy a good tune

just make sure youre not only listening to the type of music youre trying to produce and youll be fine

I used to get a bit discouraged listening to established producers work, but you really shouldn't let it. Try listening to a totally different genre. I've gone down the ambient route and have actually formed a really strong connection with the sound, I can then take this into my future work. Think the key is not to set your expectations of yourself too high, why should you? No one expects anything from you, so relax and do it for yourself :)

I try to hammer this to my head, since I know it's true. I even gave somebody else this advice on some other thread, in hope of him draining it into his brain better me. :u:

Random thought: Spent 20€ (about 25$) on some piece of crap gaming headphones, just so I can chat shit with people. Turns out these have tighter sub than any "real" headphones I ever had.
