Yeah fuck that shit bro. Pirate every Pro™ sample pack on the internet and rub your penis vigorously as you scroll through them in your media browser. Once your number of strokes approaches the number of duplicate 808 kicks in your library, it's time to start fishing for soundcloud followers. I'll even link you up with a pro comment preset:
Sik wobs m8, check out my tunes
Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V. You'll be a badman in no time.
Perfect example of a strawman fallacy.

Renewed, don't listen to this guy or buy into his agenda. Understand also that I'm not suggesting you pirate the samples, not that i could prevent you from pirating anything in the first place (I'd be surprised if sunklo hasn't pirated music). I'm saying, they are definitely what you're looking for.

You don't need to make your own samples from scratch in order to make good music. Make good music, on your own terms. Fuck the haters :)
Amen brother. But both of you are right lol.

Of course I've pirated shit. That wasn't really the point. Flooding your harddrive with rinsed samples that you'll probably never even use in an attempt to sound pro instead of putting in time to learn sound design and engineering is much worse than pirating some samples.

The piracy topic is relevant though. If you had to pay for every one of those packs, you'd be much more reticent to collect all those superfluous samples instead of working with a small set and building your own library (and learning a lot about audio engineering along the way)

If ragging on the 'shortcut to the top' mentality makes me a hater then shower me in haterade.

You misunderstood me. Of course Skrillex is someone to look up to. He contributed to defining an entire new sound and genre, American dubstep, which I prefer a thousand times over the darker variation from the UK. But it's not like he's one of my favorite artists, hell no, I like SOME songs of his stuff but he sure ain't all gold. Guys like Au5 are far more interesting imo.

I honestly look up to Hitler more than Skrillex.

At least Hitler was a good orator, a brilliant propagandist and a sharp dresser.

Oh don't back pedal now. I don't know what you think I misunderstood. You said Skrillex is someone to look up to, I thought it was funny, it got sig'd. The end.

Skrillex caused 6 million people to get tinnitus @Hitler comment.

The sheer act of not fervently deriding Skrillex is amusing enough to warrant a sig quote.

Skrillex caused 6 million people to get their faces permanently stuck in various filthy expressions.

He's not back pedaling, he's being sincere. Skrillex is a huge celeb and a really nice guy, whereas everyone talking shit about him are basically no-names with elitist attitudes; it's clear who the role model is. You keep accusing me of pirating shit based on fallible logic "if you paid for them you wouldn't buy so many" lol, you're under the impression that i have a bunch of them apparently? Like, everything youre saying is founded purely on speculation, generalization, and assumption. Stop accusing me of shit. Also, the hy2rogen packs are cheeeaap

Nobody's even accusing you of anything you cumdrunk lunatic.

Talk about logical fallacies... 'Skrillex is popular so he must know better than everyone else. Unless you have Skrillex's fame and fortune your opinion means nothing and you should look up to him'

Didn't we already go through this with the appeal to authority thread?

claudedefaren wrote:Whoaaaa, vengeance samples are top notch, ignore the haters. Sooooo many successful producers use them. People hate on them because they're popular and expensive, like they airways do with things like that (massive, for example).

Also really good are the Hy2rogen Full Phat Drums packs.
People aren't just 'hating' for the sake of hating, they're saying why they suck and offering great alternatives. There are some usable things in vengeance for sure, but the one shots are no doubt complete shit. Their popularity isn't an indicator of quality (although I'm sure someone will try and argue this until they're blue in the face).
I disagree. There are GREAT one shots in their packs. You just need to learn how to hear and find them. they are literally used in professional tunes you hear on beatport all the time. Sub Focus uses them. Reso uses them. Need i say more? I don't think anyone is getting blue in the face :)
If you're paying for them, which I assume 90% of users aren't, they aren't worth the money. If you're torrenting 20gb worth of shit samples, then thats on you to spend hours sifting through to find quality hits. They have usable elements in them for sure, but I'd rather drop 13$ on some producers personal pack with 20 out of the box ready to go drum hits than sift through vengeance's stuff.

All that aside, it really doesn't matter what you're using. Downloading all of the vengeance samples is going to have you sounding like every other kid who torrented vengeance and a copy of massive far before you'll be sounding like Reso lol. Also, Mt. Eden has beatport releases, need I say more about the 'professionalism' of tunes released on beatport?

I am absolutely a no-name and am absolutely an elitist in that I have discerning taste. I don't have any thing invested emotionally in the fact that people like Skrillex's music or want to look up to him of some kind of role model in any fashion. You like his music/him as a person. I don't like his music and don't care what kind of person he is.

I just found it funny that he called Skrillex out as look-up-to-worthy, because it's DSF and we all know what happens to any thread to mentions Skrillex...this thread.

And FWIW, I just find it insane someone would buy that many sample packs. I've bought a fair few and after sampling what a lot of companies had to offer...I found a lot of garbage and a lot of good, but mostly what I found was repetition. Buy all the sample packs you want. At the end of the day I've found for me it's easier and cheaper and rely on layering/processing/gain staging/EQ to make good drum sounds. Not to mention we've all got huge sample libraries laying around in our own music collections. It doesn't even have to be vinyl, I sample from my CDs all the time. Relying entirely on sample packs to provide you with totally ready to go "perfect" drum hits just smacks a bit of being lazy to me.

But as you said, we make music in different ways. Nothing wrong with it. We are passionate people with like-wise opinions.

No, you have cast Skrillex in a way that doesn't portray him as the absolute worst producer music has ever seen. For this horrible transgression you must pay.

Just repeat after me: Skrillex is shit, brostep is shit, and anyone trying to make this kind of music is a copycat producer who has no creativity and no artistic direction. This applies to every producer who makes "brostep," including Au5 who you mentioned, who (let me see if I get this right) is a cheap ripoff of Koan Sound, who themselves are as unoriginal and abhorrent as Skrillex himself.

But if you ask about how to sound like Mala, then suddenly no one will call you out for wanting to sound like someone else... moral of the story: it's okay to copy as long as you copy someone that everybody else on this forum likes.
