also morgan spurlock went to a "power house" of sorts that was a barn full of cows shitting. it collects the methane and converts it into electricity which powers a whole neighborhood

it was on his show 30 days

Also it's balanced out by the amount of methane produced by vegetarians.

Yep that's pretty much it. There is alos the issue of what would happen to the animals if they weren't slaughtered, as presumably they would still breed and still take up space (although I get the idea that a lot of "breeding" is done via IVF) - we eradicated all of our rival predators, so there would be nothing to keep the numbers down. Chickens would be killed by foxes or cats unless we put the effort into housing them and fencing them which let's face it is unlikely if there's no cash in the equation.

Personally I'm getting to the point where I might well try going fully veggie again, cause I totally see that it's kind of pointless where other sources of protein and nutrition can be found. The meat eating thing is mostly about survival in areas where vegetation is scarce or unsuitable for humans and is thus a source of nutrition where none other exists. In a world where we have choices though, the cruelty of it is almost entirely unnecessary and selfish. No-one is going to die from not eating meat.

And Parson, my friends are mostly pretty spot on about this stuff, one's actually done time for being beaten up by the cops whilst trying to disrupt a hunt (9 months). They're looking at points of view that will not be considered by most vegetarians and realise that some tough choices need to be made on an ecological level if the planet is to continue for all species. It's mostly a problem caused by the overbreeding of cattle for meat and the waste products involved.

That was a pretty good show, it's a pretty good idea if we adopted it. They were saying similar things could be done with a lot of garbage too if I remember right.

i am just saying that the greenhouse gasses scare might not be such a consideration if they are exposed to the info regarding the co2 cash-in and the rising temperature of the entire solar system

Massive chunks of the Amazon rainforest are also being destroyed for soya production to feed beef cattle.

i'm veggie & my fav' meal would have to be grilled cheese (usually muenster on a good whole grain bread with earth balance, pesto, avocado, tomato, garlic salt, & gomasio).

Parson & Shonky have raised some internal dialogue about the ethics of veggies - how many veggies eat Chickens Eggs, Cows Milk, Butter and Cheese (rennet free of course) etc and what are their thoughts on animals being farmed for such produce and why is this different from animals being farmed in a free range way for their meat?

well free range chicken eggs is pretty ok though i think.

grazing cows are probably fairly happy i do reckon.

the ones kept in pens attached to machines are the ones i feel for.

in rainer werner fassbinder's film in a year with 13 moons there is an extended scene inside a slaughter house and you get to see this cow get its throat slit and its hanging from its feet and is gushing blood out its throat and is screaming and screaming in terror and desperation as ift flings around dying slowly.

I'm not, seeing a slaughter of a free range Pig & a chicken on a UK food show along with insights into the nasty side of cheap farming stopped me eating Meat altogether for more than a year. I still ate fish though so never been a full veggie. Will check the Doc, thanks.
