I was struggling the other night as found a copy of 9 samurai which I really wanted on discogs but it was 35 sheets!! F**k shelling out that many queen headz for a bit of vinyl.

A few years back i'd have gone for it perhaps, but what i'm wondering and maybe someone can clear this up for me, whats the crack with flac files, i mean.. i understand the concept but how does it sound in practice?

Like if you got your CDjs, your 1210's and you bring a flac file up into the mix into some vinyl, whats it like? Does it have a similar "warmth/resonance", does it hold its own?

I'm gonna find out myself next gig, but until then...anyone?

(p.s. does it become noticeable on bigger systems etc.)

keep thinking that... in 2010, they will stop producing vinyl, because OPEC has signed an agreement... = no more virgin vinyl...

even if it were true, someone enterprising will get round it. the chicago pressing plant that used to cut Trax twelves used to press on top of old copies of Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band...and those tunes are now acid house classics...crackles and all

Big up the linoleum, I'm a lino-cutter and its one of the only substances I like as much as Vinyl






Vinyl smells nicer than Lino but in general all oil products are good in by book.

dont wory, kode9 is doing a cassette repress sometime before the summer
(he's shifting the whole label over to cassette pressings only)

Vinyl till I die...

I'd like to think that vinyl will remain as a format forever because I cant justify paying money for something that I can create myself, and I dont see myself owning the technology to cut my own vinyl anytime soon!

Plus I can justify to myself the vast amounts of money I spend every week on vinyl because I have less and less space to move in my room. Granted it can sometimes be a pain to carry my records about especially if I am playing two sets at a night and have to take both Dubstep and Techno, but I'd rather turn up with a heavyweight selection of vinyl than a wallet of cds! (Not to mention vinyl sounds better quality...)

i heard also that if you rub vinyls on yourself it makes your dick bigger?

Obviously vinyl sounds better but the benefits of MP3's outweigh that pretty significantly IMO

- Storage (25,000 songs on my laptop at all times, yes please)
- Database (good look finding that rare 12 that you know was released in 85 on XYZ label, but can't remember the name)
- Portability (iPod/iPhone/through the TV set with the 360)
- Price
- Longevity (multiple back ups of my files)

If vinyl is getting scarcer how come the records you get now are like three times a thick as the old ones. I've got a lot of old reggae/funk records and they're flimsy scratchy little scraps of plastic compared to todays.

Also I think its more likely that vinyl outlives dubstep and maybe even dance culture as a whole, seeing as its seen off all sorts of genres from Jazz to house.

Anyway if it did die out demand would probably drive some entrepreneur to make a good substitute, something that looks like vinyl weighs the same, feels the same, scratches the same but is made of some other type oil, like I don't know whale blubber or something.

I think you've taken what I was saying wrong, I was merely saying its by no means a cheap hobby...
