Blackmass Plastics : Do the Mash EP

out now!

audio:

[A] Darkest Corner

Do the Mash

[C] Industrial Espionage

[D] Suck your mother

Thorn Industries boss Blackmass Plastics steps up again to deliver 4 tracks of scorching, amphetamine-driven bass’n‘filth of the highest order, already battering soundsystems via Surgeon , Mary Anne Hobbs and the Combat clan.

Normally a regular DJ among London’s underground electro/hardcore scene, the latter half of 2007 saw Blackmass Plastics retreat into the studio, breeding and mutating his musical influences into several rampaging bass-demons, including a sterling remix of Super Mantis by the mighty Scorn.

Emerging from hibernation to ravage soundsystems with his recent assault at the Bloc Festival 2008, he’s laid down this EP of sonic weaponry as a renewed declaration of war.

Combining the influences of industrial hardcore, dubstep, drum’n‘bass and electro, and injected with seething anger, the 4 tracks are all propelled by crushing basslines and huge rolling drumbreaks arranged in relentless rhythms that never let up. Toxic atmospheres and hints of post-apocalyptic mythology pervade the uneasy, quiet spaces before and between each barrage.

This DJ-friendly EP finds immediate allies in the sounds of Rag and Bone Records, Lone Wolf, Rottun Recordings, Threnody, King Cannibal, Scorn, Vex’d, Hench, Komonazmuk and White Boi, Mode Recordings, Ekaros, Search and Destroy, Stark Sounds and anyone pursuing the darker, harder end of the bass’n‘beats territory.

this may not be the right thread to ask but I saw various options of the download on the page and was wondering : which would you suggest for possible cd/laptop djing - flac or wav?

by absurd
i would recommend WAV because it doesnt need any additional codec installation , and also because i am not too sure about the compatibility of FLAC with usual computer djing systems such as serato or so , maybe you should check in your djing soft. documenation about the formats it handles.

Hope this helps.

VA - DubstepSessions Vol.2

Quietly, without a sound, the "PN Dubstep Sessions Vol.2" sneak up to you like an assassin, coming to steal your mind away. The 10 commandments: 10 artists, united on one sampler, here to show you what quality and diversity from underground really is. 11 tracks, a dirty dozen, scavenge their way through your ears and don't leave anything unaffected. A journey through beats and sound, broader than the sunset, deeper than the Mariana Trench. Odd paths lead to curious beings who let us take part in the expertise of their art.

The medium "Cruel Culture" looks into his crystal ball and shows us what the future holds: good times! "Skyence" from Hamburg hunts beats and basses in the dancefloor-sea with his tracks "Hatred" and "Okra",and with his versatile techniques, he shows off his aptness and crowd-harpoon skills. The most powerful archmage from Rostock, "Er.ic", summons a demon with "Morpheus" who ascends from the deepest depths of the soul in order to tear your heart out. Is it bass or black magic? PN Boss and hobgoblin from the Harz mountains "Polarity" kidnapped the young knight "Skyk" to show him how to cook soup which they serve to us with their duet "Mourning".

After the meal the trip continues with foreman "Term". He lets his beats glide through bass channels like a hovercraft. It's time to get lifted! A cure from the distress of everyday life is promised by the shaman "Marauder" and his warlord friend "Doe". Even Russian nurses couldn't do a better job. With "Dubbed in Vain" "Marauder" casts one of his most powerful spells and enlightens you by bringing ancient spirits and their knowledge to the dancefloor, whereas "Doe" leads us through eerie swamps on his mission to kill and we suddenly find ourselves knee-deep in bass.

Motor City Man "Cut" from Rüsselsheim shows us with "Tec" that cyberpunk has come to 2008 and lets us in on his gloomy dystopian visions of the future. Finally, the alchimist "Hi-Lar" from Darmstadt hands us a very abstract and bass-heavy parting gift; a potion that he brewed to bring us back to reality after this journey through a magical world and all we can remember is that innovation is made underground.

Tracklist:

Cruel Culture - Future
Skyence - Hatred
Er.iC - Morpheus
Skyk & Polarity - Mourning
Term - Lifted
Skyence - Okra
Marauder & Doe - We Gonna Cure You
Doe - Knee Deep
