I'm showing my age here but the CLASSIC SHIT is from '85 to at the very max '92. The Golden Age as it were.
No offense to Nas, Wu, Mobb etc...

No, I'd say Nas, WU, and Mobb Deep are very much classic hip hop. The 36 Chambers?!!!!! You can't even touch that album for how fucking live it is!!!! Ill-matic?!!!!! Come on!!! The Infamous?!!!!! Fucking mental, hard ass shit!!!!

Diggety-Das EFX, Souls of Mischief, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Main Source, Brand Nubian, Showbiz and AG, Diamond D, Digable Planets, Gangstarr, Masta Ace, Jeru...please.
I was rockin' this shit while you were trying to learn the running man and rapping in the mirror to Coolio in the 90's.
But I digress.
In my opinion Dubstep is Hip Hop, so just keep on bringing those beats. Word up.
oooh I forgot Blackmoon!!!

everyone try to come early for the mid-90s hip hop session from 10pm til midnight. mobb, nas, wu and other classicshit on the love system!
NYC in the 90's was strictly Mix tape flava so that must mean you'd be playing joints by:
Money Boss Players
Herb Mcgruff
Royal Flush
Smiff & Wessun
Mic Geronimo
Kool G Rap
The Lost Boyz
The Fugees
Big Noyd
Group Home
Gangstarr Posse
The Infamous Mobb Deep
Lord Finesse
Diamond D
Rass Kass
The LOX
OGC
Big Punisher
Smooth Da Hustla
Ma$e
Big Jaz (Jaz O)
Big L
Sadat X
2 PAC
The FIRM
Foxy Brown
Tha Alkaholiks
Fat Joe
Shyheim
Trigga da Gambla
Ok, so I realize that I could probably go on for hours because of how heavy some of the tunes were by these cats. Particularly Money Boss Players, their records were worth more than Gold to some mixtape djs possibly even today, due to their rarity. Now that what I call 90's Hip Hop!
LOVE's Sound system would make hearing some of these gritty Street narratives a real treat.
