i still like some dubstep but i completely missed dark garage first time around so i'm listening to shitloads of that these days. still like going to nights though because of all the ridiculously sound people at them.

i don't read/post on here much now because i have nothing of substance to add and aren't really in on most of the running jokes any more. dip in for the occasional jolly though!

Still a few good tunes floating about, but seems to be either soulless squawk/wobble or try hard deepness/boredom for 95% of the releases I seem to hear. Have probably bought less than 5 dubstep tunes in the last 3 months cause it sounds to me like most of the ideas are being rehashed endlessly. Still stuff like Darkstar, TRG, Hessle, Burial and some of the unsigned people that keeps my interest, but been finding more innovative sounds from outside dubstep recently.

I pretty much go straight to the Hideout for the chat now, although that seems to be drying up too.
I'm finding myself increasingly buying stuff that doesn't fit in to what most people like to call 'dubstep' these days or I'm drawn to the less typical sounds in the scene (hyperdub, rustie, starkey etc), I haven't bought loads of records recently but what I have has been mostly garage. I spend my money on bassline house, some hip hop and b-more party mash up stuff aswell because, GODMANIT I like the fun of it.

This year have seen 2562, Martyn, Kode 9, Appleblim/Peverelist/Necta play some of the best sets I've ever seen. There was a lot of dubstep in each of those sets but also a bit of garage, glitchey stuff, techno etc.

Don't really listen to dubstep at home much, lately been listening to a lot of house/techno/electronica, some ambient/soundtrack music, uk garage (horsepower, todd edwards, wookie, steve gurley etc.), skwee, hip-hop etc.

I'll tell you what I AM sick of it- getting in massive conversations about the state of dubstep with people. It's usually me who instigates it too- and I think afterwards ''why do I even care?'' lol

I think the Rustie refix of throw some d's was way more fun than the Spliff dub remix too. Know what you mean though, the outskirts are way more interesting than the more mainstream stuff

i think all music goes in fits and starts, so thats what seems to be happening in dubstep too

A lot of the more 'mainstream' stuff is just too predictable. It reminds me of raving to DNB sets where I used to know exactly what was coming (in a slightly altered form)- here comes the kick roll, here comes the big drop etc. And the main thing I got out of that was 'this track is sickeningly dirty' again and again and again... plus at that speed I think its easy to get carried away by the sheer momentum of it.

I just think that dubstep is at a speed which allows for a lot more versatility in terms of rhythm, texture, dynamics, emotion etc. so its dissapointing to see a DJ just going for one thing over and over again. Which of course most people in a rave crowd love.

The 'fun' thing also- I love the deeper side of dubstep but I do reckon its in danger of sliding into self-importance and techno-style po-facedness. In fact it might already be there. This is all to do with splitting things between party/deep tunes when the best dubstep is party + deep....

I totally agree with this, although it's not the most popular of opinions round these parts

For some reason, the Dubstep forum has influenced me in more genres of music than sub-genres of dubstep. I've been influenced to Indie and Skweee and loads more. So I have to disagree with your point Shonx. Dubstep is a genre that will always appeal to me, unless it happens to become promoted by Rick Astley and the wobble becomes the chorus of Never gonna give you up passed through a vocoder equaliser.

i don't even refer to most of it as dubstep anymore. i talk to people about certain artists, certain sounds, etc., but i rarely mention "dubstep" as a whole. just looking for a certain tempo/swing and amount of bass. still lots of great shit out there. i've gotten very picky, but there is something for everyone, really.

dubstep is great if you don't try to listen to it all day long

i don't even normally listen to much electronic music past few years
