i think in the last 6 months ive kind of discovered what funky house is about, although i dnt really follow it much but i hear bits n pieces all the time.

its nuffin new tho, tribal/deep house has always been about, this is just the london twist on it i suppose. i reckon about 1/4 of it is sick, quite raveable...

but the majority of it i see as being a shirt and champagne clubbin ting.

that said i think in the last 6 months i now prefer this to bassline house which only has a few outstanding tracks within in a mass of similar sounds.

I got Rinse 03. I like how it's only really drums and not much else. Not sure about some of the vocals tho...

Sounds really dodge all the way through cause of probs in the studio, the track pan is all over the place etc

"The beginning of your Fridays getting FUUUNKYYII."

There are loads of nights happening if you look on the DJs who you rate myspaces you'll find flyers galore. They're good at self promotion for sure.
Yes they are shoes, no denim, no trainers that is part of the appeal in a way - back to champagne garage days. 8) Though the afterarty/private party scene is more talked about. Circle parties.

I'd recommend the Rinse @ The End night and other nights mixing the styles (like Prancehall booking Marcus Nasty next to Oneman etc. at visions)[/quote]

..... Cheers, need to check out some nights in person.

Yellowtail is a ridiculously deep track, Geeneus taking his productions to a next place altogether. those organs :s

new Footloose show is heavy... http://www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/footloose/

What's the average bpm in funky? I would guess around 120, house style, but it sounds faster than most house, and it's lumped in with bassline, dubstep and grime as a new kind of UK garage.

Gotta say i like a lot of what i have heard of this. Can't hear much of a cumbia influence like a few people have been saying, but maybe i haven't heard the right stuff.

And kode9 talking about Frankie Solaar was fucking hilarious

definitely.

today was quite a momentous turning point for me actually...listened to that marcus nasty 1xtra set 4 times .... i was constantly having to go back to the tracklist to check out what tune was making me skank out so hard in my kitchen..

the drum patterns plus the weird synths and basslines that are starting to creep in are toooooo sick ...

I still maintain that D1 - I'm Loving will be seen in future years as a pivotal release in the funky with bassweight sound that looks likely to emerge..

big!

This tune shits on any of the tunes I've heard actually referred to as funky. Will give some of these mixes a listen though.
