If ANYBODY says that a) tear-out dubstep can't be creative or b) wonky and tear-out are just rave revivalist styles after hearing this, then they have no ears.

and if ANYBODY hears it and doesn't feel like moving their arse to it, then frankly they probably have no arse.
thanks for the kind words joe!
And I wasn't even drunk :)

I'm serious, I think this could be a big release, especially if it gets the right push - it's got the crossover potential of the Caspa & Rusko Fabric Mix but it's pushing things forwards a lot more too, showcases a LOT of different sides of dubstep/wonky/bassmusic/wotucallit in a way that ordinary dance punters and dubstep heads alike should be able to appreciate.

This release is keeping us busy. It looks like the statements of the kind Joe Muggs and others may be more than prophetic, and in addition to being a charged listen, and with its crazy jewel case, capable of flagging traffic , could potentially part the seas if need be. Anyway, in trying to keep up with all the details to rolling this monster out, it took a few weeks longer than expected to unveil the winners of the contest we had, showing the winners of our little "guess the tracklist from our blurry-ass picture" contest. We'll get to that, and the tracklisting in a second, but first, a couple of anon' mentions that we thought where worth bringing up:

BEST NEW ARTIST NAME
(Who as far as we know, does not exist, but someone thought was an artist on the mix):

"Sing what you want". That's a great one, innit? Kinda gives the artist (and listener) free license. real cool, that producer that does not exist.

BEST RESPONSE THAT MAKES US THINK OF LUNCH

"Something Chomp Chomp there". He knew it was wrong, but said so in his message. Thanks for spreading the joy, Mr. Anon.

BEST NAME CHANGE, SHOULD THE ARTIST DECIDE TO START MAKING GANGSTA RAP

"Bok Bok" to "Buk Buk"

So, on with the show, if we had mini trophies we'd make the winners come to the podium and give a ham-fisted speech. The following winners will have to settle for:

*Test pressings of out next three releases for the summer! - That's right, once we get the next round of tests back you are first in line, along with a select few others, to recieve these. Since we do the releases a few at a time, this is a window into what we will be up to over the summer.

*The "Art" edition of the debut CD by Clubroot - We prepared a very small edition of this release for press, which is packaged in a grey paper hand made box. This is the same version MAH recieved to program the Show featuring Clubroot along with Boxcutter and Jega, which airs on BBC1 on March 10th (Tomorrow). This release will be generally available in May, BTW.

*The "Promo" edition of the Starkbass CD. - Well, it would be nice to hear it, after all the scrutiny, right?

*One or the other of our embroidered hats. - If you search "Hats" in this forum (actually, just click here: http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t ... highlight=)of two styles of hats we made, a Fidel castro style one, and a knot one. Let us know which you want.

*Assorted other stuff. - like stickers.

So, don't you all wish you got in on this shit now?

The winners are (In no particuilar order, or list of tops to bottom, because we can't be bothered to figure that out exactly):

MRGRBIK

STRYE

SPOOKS

Please PM us with your mailing address, and which hat you would like. We'll get all but the tests out to you now, and the test when they come back.

So, on to the ACTUAL TRACKLISTING:

Starkey/Various "Starkbass: A Continuous DJ Mix by Starkey" Lodubs

LODUBSD09001CD CD

LoDubs is pleased to present Starkbass, A DJ mix by Philadelphia's foremost native son Starkey, known throughout the world as the undisputed king of the Dubstep/Club/Grime/Hip Hop/Wonky/Bassline hybrid sometimes referred to as Streetbass. Although largely composed of the first aforementioned genre, this 25 track DJ mix, comprised of almost completely unreleased material, shows how just how the genius from the east can relentlessly tie all these elements together in a mix, with an air that sounds as if they where all part of some larger style all its own. If you have witnessed and thus heard his phenomenom in person, you will know all too well what we are referring to, and therefore must have been lucky enough to catch one of his dozens of much discussed live sessions in recent history, on one of 5 of the 8 continents (he couldn't get a booking in Antarctica for some reason.............). Starkbass, as an album, captures this essence precisely.

In the process of jumping around the globe with an arsenal of beastly tunes of his own creation, and the experience of being one of a select few to be featured on Mary Anne Hobb's “Generation Bass” program late last year, Starkey has developed a keen ear for hotness from both established artists and the newest/latest producers, allowing him access to the absolute freshest tunes, which is apparent in who is featured on the mix. From artists like Raffertie, who is just about to blow up large, with releases on Slit Jockey and Planet Mu, to established artists like Zomby, Joker, Geeneus, DZ, and Cardopusher, all came forward with their prime goods, and many with their exclusive bits they saved for just such a mega occasion.

Throughout this 25 track mix, covering the entirety of a compact disc, it is clear that the hugely recieved full length Ephemeral Exibits released a few months back was far from a single lightning strike, and Starkbass is the step beyond, showing all the styles that make up the universe of Starkbass. Are you ready?
