A mystery? lulz.

The social construction of creative arts is not a mystery but rather an old misogynist oppressive playground. It maybe unsexy to talk feminism nowdays but it's still relevant. The vocabulary surrounding creative output and the systems in place all make it more difficult for women to break through.

Your other point was women in other arts, which was true to an extent. There are many women artists yet the percentage of women artists in galleries and museums in North America is beyond marginal.

I'd suggest to check out this film: WHo Does She Think SHe is?
http://www.whodoesshethinksheis.net/

Who Does She Think She Is?, a documentary by Academy Award winning filmmaker Pamela Tanner Boll, features five fierce women who refuse to choose. Through their lives, we explore some of the most problematic intersections of our time: mothering and creativity, partnering and independence, economics and art. Along the way, the film invites us to consider both ancient legacies of women worshipped as cultural muses and more modern times where most people can't even name a handful of female artists.

No offence but that's not ever going to change.

LOL really?

Come to SF or Cali and you'll def eat your words.

:)
pretty much. women run things here.
And thank The Goddess for that!

One of the deepest Dubstep sets I ever seen/heard at a dance was Kozee on the decks!I replayed that set in my head the next two days, aching over the fact that there will never be a recording of it!And Ultraviolet can tear down DnB and Dubstep like nobody's biznizzz - believe dat son!

Big up all the Redline gyals and all our dubstep gyals producing,dj'ing, and skankin' inna dancehall!

oh...and @Hera:

To be honest I think the only conclusion that can be drawn from all of this is that women simply get stuck in more. That way it'll really become less of a phenomenon and more just the norm.

So if it is deemed as different from 'normal' in our society for a female to make electronic music, she is less likely to do it, and we can do our little bit to help stop peddling such ridiculous norms.
This, couldn't have said it better myself.

My favourites (dj's and producers) are Vaccine, Subeena, Ikonika, Shiva, Kozee, Gena, Pandai'a... big up everytime! 8)

wow . so many!! good to know :)

actually i produce dubstep, dnb, and breakbeat stuff, but my main focus production-wise now is based on dubstep, because i can play a lot more with sounds in this field, there is more room then at 180 bpm.

if you wanna check out some of my productions, you can go either to http://www.myspace.com/shroombab or http://www.myspace.com/hightensionrecordings (my labels homepage with the first release being DUBSTEP). apart from that, my upcoming releases are not shared on myspace. there's something for dubstep division and something for dubkraft in the pipeline, but can't share audios with you yet.

also my remixer of "swanky" is a lady, she's called SciFiSol, but obviously she's more into IDM and electro than pure dubstep.

The fact that people are admitting to loving these producers before being aware of their gender is enough to close this down!

And utmost respect to Shiva but I figured everybody knew that from me! Her set style is so musical, evolving, macro-visionary.
