www.various.co.uk
This aint neccesarily a bad thing (I'm personally feeling some of this), but stage 3 can't be far off: a David Bowie dubstep LP or some shit.
Secondly, I'm starting to wonder if Dubstep didn't die already the moment the name was coined. There's a lot of talk about how exciting the scene is cos it hasnt been locked down to any one thing yet, hasnt become formulaic. And yeah, maybe that was the case in the beginning. I bought some of the early Horsepower, Darqwan, Zed Bias stuff when it came out and din't really know what music it was, and I get the impression that they dint either. They just did it. And that stuff was exciting.
I'm rambling here, but what I wanted to say was that if u just check the first dubstep allstars LP it was diverse, exciting, more of a dark 2-step sound, but check allstars no.4 and 90% of it is pretty weak and samey. Kind of a wak white-man's reggae; hardly fukcing groundbreaking.
Its like once the name dubstep stuck everyone went "oh yeah, gots to stick some stupid skanking sounds and echoing vocals in now or it isnt dubstep".
Apart from that, I'm a little dubious as to whether its a real scene like grime is. Seems a little artificial to me, like its all just a fuss created on the internet. But maybe thats how all new forms are gonna develop now?
So, anyway, dubstep's dead, yeah: debate....
Wow
You can't take a piece (Dubstep AllStars from 3 to infinitive

) and writing about dubsteps' dead. This scene is too large for that. Tempa is dying, maybe, dubstep, not!!

What a load of codshit

Garanateed you have never heard Dubstep outside of your bedroom
Analysing it constantly is not guna bring it 'back to life' in your eyes so why bother? If you care at all for the sound dig a little deeper into the quality then come back to us.

My two cents (dunno why i'm bothering really, just getting sucked in I guess):
As the whole drive behind the scene is really to make music that rattles your chest in a dance I feel that that is inevitably gonna lead to a certain degree of formula within the dance orientated beats. Fair play beats can be more ambient/ experimental in nature than full-on weight, but what people want is an undelying weight to the sound, and when it comes to sub-bass I feel that there are only so many forms/ rhythms that are pleasing to hear/ feel. As tunes are then built upon this it is inevitably gonna result in a degree of formula.
Perhaps i'm just being very short sighted though, perhaps there really are unlimited possibilities for this music we love

alot of people's lives, dreams and motivations revolve around dubstep.
i do agree with some of what you say, but why piss a whole fraternity of.
if your not set to benefit from it in whatever capacity why bother rustling feathers.
its music and entertainment. keep it at that, coz it is quite entertaining.

welcome back the 'dubstep & criticism' thread. should maybe be a sticky, just to save on server space...
really trying not to be drawn, but while dubstep is clearly alive and kicking, it's fair enuf 2 chat about the formulaic approach that's coming about in a lot of productions. ppl posting tunes all like 'is this dubstep??' shows the lack of creativity/imagination at work, and i have 2 confess to being a bit bored at fwd/dmz on occasions where it's just pure wobble and nothing else.
as the releases grow (and inevitably the % of shit tunes getting released goes up) need 2 have faith tho in the big selectors to sort the good bits from the rubbish (n-type and kode 9 my current big hopes).

man is playing devil's advocate to provoke discusion. badly, but still. all this 'protecting our own', 'grime is entirely inferior', 'fuck off if u don't wet yrself over every nex bassline' is a bit embarassing tbh. discussion or tacit, init.

If this thread is going to be another 3 pages of bitching, it's getting locked. If people can't be critical without being rude then it's just circular logic.
