I’ve got an old mate who was curious about dubstep after buying Burial’s second album on the back of the (justified) hype. He’s mainly into Hip Hop and a bit of house. I sent him ten all time classics including Digital Mystikz, Pinch, Skream, The Bug, Joker etc.

The next day he emailed me to say that he’d listened to Kode 9’s ‘9 Samurai’ five times that morning before leaving for work and asked me when the next DMZ was.

NINE SAMURAI

^^Um, yes it is. Best intro to dubstep is breakstep like Synbad.

Its hard to boil down all your favorites into one track that you think someone else may like, would probably still go for this though:

Emalkay - Mecha 8)

not even debatable
on a proper system it's a big tune... i can appreciate the subtle toughness of it... i dunno if it's THE TUNE though... there are others i would pick first.

i would pick a track that most closely resembles their favourite genre. or a really dubby one... maybe one that's a remix of a well known reggae track or something. reggae is always pleasing and very accessable to most people... or something hip hoppy like "summer solstice" by matty G. that's a huge beat in any language. or maybe "trust nobody" by SPMC. that's a real sleeper.

It really depends on what the person's into, so I'd make him/her listen to something in which they could find something to hang on to.

Antiwar Dub - Mala
9 Samurai - Kode9
Distant Lights - Burial
Feel Me - Distance
Slippin' - DJ Coup
Fire - Phaeleh
Watch The Ride mixed by Skream is a very good intro as well.

Never knew Mecha was such a popular tune, it was probly the 3rd or 4th dubstep record i ever bought.
