are you talking about audio or midi regions? midi regions will snap to the grid automatically. if you want to do that with audio regions you have to go into the time / pitch machine...
no you don't.... bring up the Lists menu (top right) and click on 'Events'. Then select the audio regions you want to move and quantise them as you see fit with 'Q'
I have a follow up to my question about repeating regions along with the automation... is there a way to freeze the automation? because i'm always clicking on the midi region with the automation data on it and moving the dots, it's really annoying!
just press A to make it disappear :)

I probably worded my question wrong... I know that pressing A brings up the automation data, etc. the question that I have is after I've moved the automation to a certain region, is there a feature that i can turn on / off that won't let me touch the automation nodes?

a few ways
alt>drag the region x amount of times
or
options>track automation>move automation data to region
then cmd>R to copy your desired amount
there are possibly more as well
thank you, kind sir!
also
Preferences>automation> move automation with region

great little tool

lets you modify the exact start/end points of your audio/midi regions and midi data

ie, when you draw a midi note and it does'nt sit flush with the end of the bar

you could also use 'list' but that can get cluttered with all the other data

However; if you 'clone' the audio region you only have one audio region in the audio bin being referenced twice! but - any changes you make to the length etc of this region will affect the clone.

So..
say you 'copy' this audio region 100 times - you have 100 copies of the same audio region being referenced in your audio bin
..and if you have done this ..its likely you have copied all you other audio samples in the same way..
thus 1000s of audio regions in you audio bin and your processor working overtime to reference them all.

also worth noting.. if you cut a segment of an audio region - it creates a region for the segment you have cut and 2 more regions either side of the segment you have cut.

So .. Keep your audio bin clean - and colour code your regions
press 'B' then 'shift U' to highlight all unused regions in the audio bin - then delete
Clone audio regions where ever possible unless you need to edit the same audio region in several different ways - then you copy the audio region.

This really helps keep your project tidy and the workflow of your arranging process
and to be honest, undestanding regions is really the first ting you should be getting to grips with in logic.

You dont worry about Midi regions in the same way
hi everyone,

I just discovered this great board. all these threads about production are fantastic.. thanks! :)

here is the question: how can I "clone" the audio regions???
I mean, when I want to repeat an audio loop, I alt+drag the audio regions for, say, 100 times... is this correct????

how can I colne the audio regions?

or u can just hold down control while setting the length to get to those hard to reach places :)

Oldie but goodie. Open up a multi output Ultra Beat, load up the Drag & Drop preset from the Drum Kits menu, in Logic open up the media>browser and drag your samples to the little black window.

Using ultrabeat like this is a good alternative to esx's lack of individual zone's filters and envelopes. The only draw back I found is the lack of mapping, not able to adjust end time of a sample (perhaps compensate by using envelope 4), some what CPU heavy compared to EXS...Someone correct me if I'm wrong on these things, but so far it's a great way to get drum kits going in logic.

i use this but for some reason when the sample is loaded into ultrabeat it sounds different to how it does in the browser...

even after deselecting the red arrow to send the sample to filter etc....

anyone else come up against that, or know a solution so that the sample will just play raw, as it does in the browser?

thanks!!

First post on here, totally loving this forum. I don't make dubstep at all but this forum is without doubt the best for production tips.
Anyway , my fav tip is : right click in the transport bar in logic 8 ( next to start, stop etc)select customize and then select the capture recording. You'll now see a new button in that bar. Play your tune, jam on the keyboard, hit stop and then hit the capture record button. It will bring up what you've just played as midi data. No more wishing you'd hit record after playing a sick riff =)

Cheers for the useful tips in this thread!

Tip

You can use the Marquee tool chop bits out of audio parts. Just click drag the press delete. Great for stuutter effects or chopping bits out of effect tails for glitchyness.

Zoom in first tho for ultimate accuracy :D

Its a Pure bred Bass making DAW... YES!

Just remember its the person behind the computer that can make amazing bass. Not the computer
