Just try not to think of how mortifying it'll be if you fuck it all up and you'll be fine.

Think y'er spinning at home r something... getting a tiny bit wasted is also recommended... but not to much, I've seen some shit go really wrong with drunk dj's :D

The nerves will pass when you start spinning and the crowd is loving it.

Like a couple of others have said, just focus on the tunes as opposed to the mixing.

Very first times I EVER played out, back about 3 years when I played electro-breaks (lol), was about 2 weeks after I bought my first records. Had absolutely NO idea how to beatmatch really, although I fluked a couple of mixes, but another DJ on the night asked for the names of about 3-4 tunes that I had played.

I don't recommend doing that, but if you're a confident beatmatcher, all you want to do with a 30min 6th form party set is anthem bash and set that dancefloor off!

Play the tunes YOU want to hear. Don't worry about what people think of you- your job is to select and mix the best tunes for the moment. If you do that halfway decent they will love you. Let your taste speak for itself. Good luck, and HAVE FUN!

Never played a gig out either. Although i was asked to at this event run by a mate and as i was preparing for it i got the BPMs exact of every tune in my mix written down on a piece of paper which helped a lot.
Shame i was let down, was looking forward to playing there.

I haven't played before and I'm nervous about it too. Not about my ability, but that people just won't really like my music or be able to dance to it...

And add a bunch of vodka if you don't want to remember the gig altogether.

My honest opinion for your first time out is to pretend you're just spinning for your friends in your bedroom. There's nothing you would do live that you haven't already done a million times at home ya know? Don't take any major risks(unless you're a serious beast on decks and can compensate if you make an error) and play clubby stuff if it's a clubby crowd, etc...

My only real major advice is to bring a wide selection. Drop what you would normally drop at a real hype house party with just friends around. See how the crowd reacts and go from there. Doesn't even have to be Dubstep. Drop a random 80's throwback tune and get the crowd lifted and drop some serious shit on them.

Kinda like running a label tbh. Just gotta make your considerations and put your ass on the line. If it's worth it, losing out in the end won't matter.

i would also say, dont expect your set to be epic, just bring a variety of tunes and do our thang naturally dont feel pressured to perform a certain way.

I spous you just need to practise practise practise...know the bpm of all your tunes and what pitchs they usally have to be at to mix into a song. I don't actually know any of th bpms of any of my collection..just know what pitch they need to be at to mix them. If you've got that sorted and know your vinyls well(e.g.how many bars ect.)then you can nearly always beatmatch anything...but it may sound absolutly shite, so...know what tunes sound good with others ;)

1) don't get wasted, have a beer half an hour before you go on.

2) work out your first 3 tunes, no more than that.
