ard bodied and walk in the park are fuckin excellent IMO, his vocals are slow but they work so well with boom productions riddims.
i really wasnt sure about him when i first heard him but all his tracks really grew on me.

Do people really need to give reasons why they enjoy some music more than others? Is it really that black and white? I think that it's a sign of the quality and power of some music that you can't explain what it is exactly that you like about it, it just has that indescribable something.

And besides, do you really expect me try and reason with you when you seem so relentlessly, and aggressively, set in your ways? I'd gladly have a reasoned conversation with someone about what I think the advantages of mainstream over underground are (namely more creative and innovative production by the way), but with you it just seems like I'd be stepping into some pointless e-squabble and I really can't be arsed with that.

i like any music if it's good be it mainstream or underground...i like timbaland and radiohead as well as herbie hancock and billie holiday and nina simone...they have sold a few records i believe but maybe i need to check that....if you define someone disagreeing with you as pointless for debate then i think you just don't want to be disagreed with
Piston wrote:too an extent though you are right as there is little coming out but mainstream hip-hop atm...this is due to all the money being thrown at the music that keeps the poor folk wanting more stuff....
That is rather an odd statement.
really?

i can't respond because you didn't say why...

seems pretty straighforward to me really....major labels are the economy...the status quo of how people think allows them to increasingly divide people and sell more shit to people of differing tastes and ultimately keep people consuming through the things they consume....the audience for hip-hop is generally going to be poorer than that of coldplay or keane is it not?

i prefer mainstream hip-hop to those guys but my point was pretty clear was it not?

he's certainly a lot more positive than the black eyed peas...

like has been said it's a bit pointless trying to debate whether he is good or not...the thread ws called opinions on giggs so i thought i would be able to express mine without rebuke...

peace fellas

I think his slow and monotonous voice makes him sound thick and also really hard to listen to. I also prefer more meaningful and thought-out lyrics than:
"Walk in the party Sportin Armani
Half of the crowd all snortin my charley
Sorted the bar, time to sort the punnany
Chicks lookin at me like talk to me darlin (Jheeze)
Hollerin at man
Winkin, Smilin and wanna attack man
I think these lighties lovin my black gang
Everyones suit same colour as Batman's"

He's talking so much bullshit, I can't relate to it whatsoever. Also I don't think the beats he's rapping over are that good either, not terrible but, someone else probably deserves the money he's getting, I think anyone could do what he does.
imo...

I'm really feelin' Giggs style. His mellow flow is a nice change from a majority of the other MCs coming from both the UK and US. Anyone who isn't a fan, I highly reccomend checking out the tune he did with Mike Skinner. One of my favorite tunes at the moment:

No mate, I'm perfectly happy to be disagreed with, but I define responding to this as pointless...
Piston wrote: how the fuck could you qualify that statement?

it hasn't....it's mostly shit...
It was never gonna be a mature and reasoned debate, was it?
Piston wrote: seems pretty straighforward to me really....
No, it really isn't. I've tried really hard but I still don't understand what you're saying. How does the "status quo of how people think" allow majors to "divide people" or "ultimately keep people consuming through the things they consume"? Sorry man but it just seems like a massively confused argument, not to mention one majorly based on a conjecture-filled, anti-establishment, conspiracy theory style paranoia.

As dhaywood has said, just listen to music. I'm not going to lie, I used to be very similar to you in my tastes and my feelings toward mainstream Hip-Hop, until I realised that letting politics govern your taste in music is pretty stupid. Always approaching things with an open-mind is the best way, I reckon that if you gave the mainstream stuff more of a chance you might start to see how creative some of it is.

i meant that if the things people consume encourage them to consume more then the only real winners are the major labels in league with the bankers/military companies that secretly own the conglomorates that own vivendi universal, sony etc etc..

write it off if u want but check it out first...it isn't covered up...there is overall control and promoting things with a certain message is a part of it...i guess if you want to ignore it then do but theres plenty of music i like that doesn't push agendas in a subtle fashion that i find disagreeable..

I actually like some mainstream music anyway as i said....i love about 5 or 6 tunes of shock value for example and outkast, pj harvey, radiohead, dr dre etc etc...

anyway man let's just agree to disagree....i'm sure we have plenty of common ground outside hip-hop and i am honestly a very positive person when it comes to promoting music through my job, promotion, mixes etc...

i hope someone like durrty blows up instead of someone like giggs soon though just so we got a bit of balance...
