I listened to that whole debate and the one thing that really stuck with me was...

Hopefully the ambiguous voting categories concerning uk/international artisits however will mean that Skrillex doesn't win anything!

Would be cool to see KoRn win this...they're such a gifted band, always have been.

I never thought I'd see so much snobbery within this scene.
I'm kinda lost for words.

I dunno. I'm not trying so much to label whats going on here but it just feels like a load of people ganging up on some bloke who's put his hand in his pocket and decided to try and do something he deems to be positive.
I may be wrong. I give up.

To be fair to the people complaining, I think they're more bothered about people that have admitted themselves that they don't have the slightest clue about dubstep, the history doesn't matter, and that they're in it for the money.
I don't give a shit about the event going ahead, I'm not going to go, but would've been nice to have someone with a little more involvement in dubstep (who actually cares and appreciates the scene) running an 'awards night' than this lot. They admitted on the Get Darker call in it was all about the money, I just wish they'd said that in the beginning.

It's not snobbery. The guy said himself he knows nothing about Dubstep. Therefore people are pissed off he's running the 'Dubstep Music Awards'. Seems pretty reasonable to me!

the guy on the getdarker interview clearly said he doesnt think its important where the music comes from or its history, its just about celebrating where its at now. Then he says they're celebrating how far its come?
How can you celebrate how far something has come if you know nothing about where it has come from & dont think thats an important part of what they're doing?
& dubstep has to be the easiest music genre to research! A couple of youtube videos and you'd at least know the name's Loefah & Croydon (not Soho).
To me that just suggests ignorance & insults the scene itself.
Imagine if someone ran the drum&bass awards without knowing any of its history prior to people like Netsky & other newer artists.
People need to get behind Darkside and realise that this music should be celebrated by those that are apart of it and know what they're talking about, and not by successful promoters that are good at putting on expensive events & marketing.

i'm really new to the scene here but just thought i'd add that as i learn more about its roots, i derive tremendous amounts more joy from it. but that's kind of how i am, i like history n tracing roots and putting the bigger picture together

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving sizan or Hitler approaches 1.
Probably means it's time to lock this thread.
