this is precisely what i do
nowaysj wrote: NOW I'm creating empty spaces, and then writing music and sound design INTO those spaces. Does that make sense?
actually not really, would you mind being more specific ?
@BudSpencer: mean sound design. great use of all the little incidentals. could be just me, but i feel the main growl bass should have a bit more presence, like it sounds kinda thin to me, not sure if i'm expressing that right. also i'm not sure about the stabs after the 2nd drop but that is most probably down to personal taste.
@Jizzman solo tune: nice and sweet wonky beat, really like how you incorporated the water samples into the mix. i'd like to hear more of that reverberd sitar-ish instrument a) should be a bit less buried in the mix, and b) there could be more of it. i'm not sure if it should be shorter, but it's a bit of a slow start, maybe i'd add some more elements in the intro, even if it's subtle stuff.
@Jizzman rayman remix: well that was weird, nice idea but sounds a bit too simple and repetitive. i'd had a different snare/clap and alternate them to keep the beat more varied. also at the very end, when the sort of weird choir starts a sort of melody (at the 1.50 mark), i think you should use this sort of effect more often throughout, from there i see this having the potential to go full blown milanese weird
@Jizzman full english: i'm feeling the swamp 81-ish vibe, though the mixdown sounds a bit off, the snare should hit harder imo, it sounds kinda muffled to me. i'm not sure i like the chords coming in later, maybe i'd add some sort of effect to make them sound less bland like a chorus or idk. not feeling the arps at all but it's probably personal taste.
@sunklo: jazzy indeed. love the groove you got going on with that bassline. as pointed out, obviously the beats should be a tad less prominent in the mix, also they could be a bit more varied and stripped down at times. i think you could use the horns a bit more, maybe as a sort of counterpoint for the guitar melody?
@nowaysj: madness as usual. it has a john carpenter flavor, really like the background beats and how they work with the piano loop. not sure about the lead synth tho, i think it detracts with the rest of the elements. maybe if it was an octave lower. also i wish this didn't end so abruptly. i don't know it feels as if you got enough elements to make this a 4/5 min piece, building that tension, breaking it up, etc

thanks for the fb
would you like more low or more highend on the main growl i suppose you mean the main loop on which the song builds?
