i was utterly gobsmacked when i realised that "funky" wasn't actually a big pile of shite
if someone told me a few months ago i'd be buying funky house i'd probably have gunfingered them in the eye.... well i'd probably have done that anyway but you get my point
I'm of the same opinion. Can you recommend some stuff that might be.....dare I say it........good?

House haters. There has always been good house, you just need to avoid the poppy sugary stuff and go straight for the deep and funky ish... which has been around a lot longer than the term 'funky' as a catchall for house.
I havent been in the loop lately, but back in the day labels like Siests, Leaf, Large, 20/20, Classic and Om were usually safe bets.

these are the ones i was contemplating buying last night. there's loads of versions in the same clip on the uptown site, and a lot of them seem to be in a different order than claimed but you should be able to work it out
apple - segalizer is just dirt, probably on his myspace but i can't access it to have a look
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... =123231321
this is a bit cheesier but pretty good
http://www.uptownrecords.com/store/prod ... ts_id=2978
this is one is sick. love the vocals and the rhythm's great

they're the only released ones that i can find that i'm feeling though really. a lot of the other stuff is pretty much funky house as you'd expect it, but maybe with a slight twist

When are you going to start buying stuff from the John Lewis list?
Badger and Kid: thanks for the recommendations.
At the moment, I am considering whether or not to give a kitten a home.

i'm including lots of quotes about how "the locals" want to tell the government "how it really is" and that, so thats one way of putting the message through
but yeah i'm basically gonna try and be as straight up as possible with it
